Hiring: Java Backend Engineer / Java Full Stack Engineer
Location: Leeds, UK

Contract Rate: Up to £400 per day
Contract Opportunity
We are looking for an experienced Java Backend Engineer / Java Full Stack Engineer to join a collaborative engineering team working on scalable, cloud-based applications and modern microservices.
This opportunity is suitable for professionals with strong experience in Java, Spring Boot, Microservices, SQL, APIs, and cloud-based application development.
Candidates with experience in Java backend development who also have exposure to React, Kafka, GCP, Docker, or Kubernetes are encouraged to apply.
Key Responsibilities
Design, develop, and maintain scalable Java-based backend applications and microservices.Build and enhance modern applications using Java 17 and Spring Boot.Develop and maintain RESTful APIs and web services.Work closely with engineering, product, QA, and DevOps teams to deliver high-quality solutions.Contribute to technical design, architecture discussions, and engineering best practices.Participate in code reviews and support high standards for code quality, security, performance, and maintainability.Troubleshoot and resolve complex application and production issues.Support and mentor other developers where required.Contribute to CI/CD, containerization, testing, and cloud deployment activities.Work with frontend teams and contribute to React-based development where relevant.
Core Skills
Strong hands-on experience with Java, ideally Java 17 or newer.Strong experience with Spring Boot and Spring Framework.Experience designing and developing Microservices.Strong understanding of REST APIs and web services.Good knowledge of SQL and relational databases.Experience with database design, query optimization, indexing, and transactions.Experience with unit testing and integration testing.Knowledge of software engineering principles such as SOLID and clean-code practices.Strong problem-solving and debugging skills.Good communication and collaboration skills.
