Description

ABOUT PERSONIFY CARE Personify Care is an Australian digital health company building the next generation of patient pathway software. Our platform helps hospitals and health services digitise clinical workflows, from pre-admission screening to post-discharge follow-up, ensuring patients are better prepared, clinical teams have richer data, and care is safer. We work with leading public and private health services across Australia and NZ and are growing rapidly. Our engineering team is distributed across Australia, with an offshore development capability, and works closely with clinical, product, and customer success colleagues across the business. THE OPPORTUNITY We're looking for our first dedicated Senior Frontend Engineer to own the frontend of our clinical platform and raise the bar for how usable it is. Our product is UI-heavy and used by patients, clinicians, and customer success teams every day - how easy it is to use directly affects patient safety and whether our customers adopt it. Today our team is strong on the backend but has no dedicated frontend expertise. You'll be the technical anchor for the frontend, building a more user-friendly, robust, and unified interface, setting the frontend direction and standards, and lifting the frontend capability of the wider team. Our platform currently runs on a CodeIgniter (PHP) with a legacy jQuery frontend, with some parts being converted to Vue.js. A migration to a modern frontend framework is planned, and you'll help lead it. This is a rare opportunity to shape the frontend of a growing health product from the ground up. WHAT YOU'LL DO Own the architecture, quality, and direction of our frontend across the platform.Build user-facing features that are robust, consistent, accessible, and genuinely easy to use.Work hands-on in our current CodeIgniter/jQuery codebase day-to-day while helping lead the migration to a modern JS framework.Set and champion frontend best practices - coding standards, code reviews, testing, and reusable components / design-system.Partner closely with design, product, and backend engineers to review and refine feature specifications, and turn designs and requirements into high-quality UI, helping make sure we build the right thing, not just build it right.Mentor and upskill engineers across the team in frontend development, raising the standard for everyone.Troubleshoot and resolve complex UI and frontend performance issues.Ensure development aligns with our security, privacy, and compliance obligations.Participate in agile ceremonies and contribute to sprint planning, retrospectives, and team rituals. WHAT YOU'LL BRING Essential Extensive professional frontend engineering experience, with deep command of core JavaScript, HTML, and CSS.Proven track record of delivering high-quality user interfaces in a senior or lead capacity.Strong experience with a modern JavaScript framework (e.g. React or Vue), including leading or contributing to a migration/modernisation from a legacy frontend.Comfortable working hands-on in legacy codebases, with a pragmatic, incremental approach to modernising them.Working knowledge of PHP applications (or the ability to work effectively within a PHP MVC application), since our frontend currently lives within one.Strong grasp of frontend architecture, design patterns, and UI performance.Experience with version control (Git) and modern workflows (CI/CD, automated testing).Excellent problem-solving skills and the technical leadership to set frontend direction.Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to mentor and motivate team members.Accessibility expertise (WCAG) on user-facing products.Based in Australia with full, ongoing working rights.Experience with AI-assisted development practices and tools (e.g. Claude Code). Highly Regarded Experience owning or building a design system / component library.Automated frontend / end-to-end testing (Playwright, Cypress, Jest, or equivalent).Familiarity with integrating RESTful APIs.Background in healthcare, clinical systems, or other regulated / compliance-sensitive industries.Prior experience in a SaaS product company.Familiarity with containerisation (Docker) and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP). WHO YOU ARE You take pride in your craft. You build interfaces that are a pleasure to use, and code others can read and maintain. You are ownership-oriented. You see problems through to resolution rather than waiting to be told what to do.You are pragmatic. You balance doing things right with doing things in a reasonable timeframe. You're product-minded. You think about the user and the problem, not just the implementation. You communicate proactively. You raise issues early, share context, and don't let things silently stall. You lift others. You set the standard and help the team grow its frontend skills. WHAT WE OFFER Competitive salary benchmarked to senior frontend roles in the Australian market.Hybrid / remote role with flexible working arrangements.Work on meaningful software that directly supports patient care across Australian hospitals.A small, high-trust team where your voice shapes technical direction. The chance to own and shape the frontend of a growing clinical product, including a modern-framework migration.Access to professional development, learning resources, and technical communities. Personify Care is an equal opportunity employer. We value diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all team members.
