Embedded Software Engineer – Safety-Critical Autonomous Systems Location: Oxford (Hybrid) Working Pattern: Minimum 3 days per week onsite Salary: £40,000 - £60,000 Candidates must be eligible for Security Clearance. The Role You'll play a key role in the design, development and verification of embedded software used within safety-critical autonomous systems. Working across the full software lifecycle, you'll contribute to the development of high-integrity software, collaborate with specialists across architecture, verification and certification, and help deliver solutions capable of meeting the highest levels of safety assurance. Whether your background is in aerospace, defence, automotive or another safety-critical industry, this is an opportunity to work on technology that is pushing the boundaries of autonomous systems. What you'll be doing Design and develop embedded software for safety-critical autonomous platformsDevelop software supporting system safety, monitoring and fault-tolerant operationBuild high-integrity software using Ada, SPARK Ada and associated development toolchainsContribute to the architecture of certifiable embedded systemsWork closely with verification and certification engineers throughout the software lifecycleSupport the development of software aligned to DO-178C and high-assurance engineering principlesIntegrate software across mission computers, flight control systems and safety functionsParticipate in software verification, validation and design assurance activitiesContribute to the evolution of next-generation autonomous platforms from concept through to deployment What we're looking for You'll have a strong background in embedded software engineering together with experience developing software within regulated or safety-critical environments. Ideally you'll have experience with: Embedded software developmentC, C++, Ada or similar low-level programming languagesReal-time or embedded operating systemsHigh-integrity software developmentSoftware verification and validationSafety-critical engineering processes Experience in any of the following would be advantageous: Ada or SPARK AdaDO-178CAerospace, defence or autonomous systemsFlight control systems or avionicsUAV, drone or eVTOL platformsROS, ROS2, PX4, MAVLink or similar autonomy frameworksDAL A / DAL B software developmentISO 26262, IEC 61508 or comparable functional safety standardsModel-based development or formal methods Why apply?
