Job Title(Senior) Bioinformatics Software Developer Job SummaryKinomica is a precision medicine company developing next-generation diagnostic tests to help clinicians prescribe the right drug, for the right patient, at the right time. We acquire large, high-quality phospho-proteomics datasets from clinical samples using our state-of-the-art KScan® platform; through which, we were the first to demonstrate that phosphoprotein signatures can be predictive of drug response in a clinical setting (see our profile in Nature). Our work sits at the intersection of biology, data science, and software engineering. We're building robust tools and intuitive interfaces to allow researchers, collaborators, and other external users to access, analyse, and visualize complex biological data. We’re now expanding our software team to scale our infrastructure and platforms. As a result, we’re looking for a passionate, creative, and ambitious team member to join us on this mission. You will support mass spectrometry-based (phospho)proteomics data analysis by utilising and further developing our proprietary suite of bioinformatic and computational tools that form a crucial part of our KScan® technology. About the role We're looking for a (Senior) Bioinformatics Software Developer to help us build and maintain the core systems that power Kinomica’s data infrastructure and user-facing tools. The position is available on a remote or hybrid basis depending on the candidates preferences and operational requirements. You’ll work across a multidisciplinary team of wet lab, data scientists, and bioinformaticians to: Design and maintain scalable databases that manage biological and clinical datasets.Develop and optimize data pipelines for processing and integrating proteomics data.Implement and/or improve algorithms for proteomics data quantification and identification.Build intuitive web-based interfaces and dashboards for data exploration.Ensure data security, quality control, and performance across systems. Responsibilities and DutiesKScan® platform development Design, develop, and maintain relational databases (MySQL).Maintain, develop, and improve pre-existing tools.Collaborate on algorithm and pipeline development with bioinformaticians and data scientists.Design and implement back-end and front-end interfaces for internal and external users.Write clear documentation and support users across teams.Version control with Git and collaborative workflows (e.g., GitHub, Jira).Bioinformatics infrastructure design, development, and maintenance.Develop and transition R&D code into "regulation ready" commercial and clinical diagnostic software platforms and products, including the development of a robust user interface (UI) and framework for compliant clinical data handling.Implement software lifecycle processes in alignment with FDA Quality Management System Regulation standards for software as a medical device (SaMD) in collaboration with our Quality Assurance Manager. This includes maintaining design history files and participating in formal design lock processes.Collaborate with internal teams to maintain secure, scalable environments that protect sensitive patient data and meet global regulatory requirements. Qualifications and Skills Essential: Proven experience with C/C++ programming languages in Linux and/or Windows environments.Proficiency in database architecture (eg. MySQL).Understanding of bioinformatics and ‘omics data, particularly proteomics.Familiarity with biomarker discovery.Excellent communication and organisation skillsProven track record in designing and developing software, ideally within a regulated life sciences or medical device environment.Experience in continuous deployment, automation, and scaling.Expertise in bioinformatics pipeline development, and UI/UX design for clinical and/or scientific applications.Ability to work cross-functionally and collaborate effectively across R&D, Quality, and Product teams. Non-essential but added advantage: Experience with Python, R, C#, and JavaScript.Experience of building data visualisation dashboards (e.g. Plotly, Dash).Experience in Windows and Linux system management.Experience in cloud architecture (e.g. AWS/Oracle/Azure).Previous experience working in small-medium enterprises (e.g., start-up, biotech) or a pharmaceutical company.Familiarity with SaMD regulations (e.g., FDA premarket submissions, Predetermined Change Control Plans) and quality management systems (ISO 13485).
