This role is part of the Data Acquisition and Test Engineering Tools team and plays a key role in enabling reliable, scalable production of next‑generation modem technologies. The position focuses on building and supporting software used on Ciena production lines worldwide, working closely with product design, test engineering, and manufacturing teams to bring advanced connectivity solutions into high‑volume production environments. How You Will Make An Impact Design and implement software tools, frameworks, and applications for Windows and cloud‑based platforms that support data collection and test automationDeliver end‑to‑end software solutions across presentation, application, business logic, and data access layersBuild robust, scalable, and well‑documented software using continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) pipelines and agile development methodologiesDrive standardization of new and existing test software frameworks across production environmentsSupport test engineering teams in adopting new technologies that enhance or replace existing test solutionsCollaborate with electrical, optical, systems, and research and development teams to define requirements and specifications for software deliverablesShare best practices and provide technical guidance to engineering teams supporting process and test automation The Must Haves Software development experience: 3+ years of hands‑on experience in object‑oriented software development, preferably using C# and .NETCloud technologies: Experience implementing serverless, cloud‑based solutions, preferably using Amazon Web Services or Microsoft AzureSource control and CI/CD: Knowledge of source control management systems, continuous improvement tools, and peer code review practices, preferably using Git, Subversion (SVN), Bamboo, and ArtifactoryTroubleshooting skills: Strong troubleshooting and debugging skills in complex software environmentsWeb technologies: Experience with TypeScript, Angular, SCSS, and ASP.NETAPI design: Experience designing and implementing Representational State Transfer (REST) servicesDevelopment practices: Familiarity with test‑driven development methodologiesUser experience: Understanding of user experience best practicesSoftware fundamentals: Familiarity with software design patterns and data structuresAgile tools: Familiarity with agile software development tools, including JiraData science exposure: Practical experience with data science principles and methodologies Nice To Haves Collaboration: Ability to work effectively with cross‑functional teams across multiple geographiesWork style: Self‑motivated, well‑organized, with a willingness to learnCommunication: Strong written and verbal communication skillsPrioritization: Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet aggressive deadlines while maintaining qualityInnovation mindset: Curiosity to experiment with new technologies to solve existing problemsDomain knowledge: Experience in instrumentation, optics, or telecommunicationsManufacturing systems: Experience working with Manufacturing Execution Systems Pay Range The salary range for this role in Ottawa is $76, 700 - $122, 500 Pay ranges at Ciena are designed to accommodate variations in knowledge, skills, experience, market conditions, and locations, reflecting our diverse products, industries, and lines of business. Please note that the pay range information provided in this posting pertains specifically to the primary location, which is the top location listed in case multiple locations are available. Non-Sales employees may be eligible for a discretionary incentive bonus, while Sales employees may be eligible for a sales commission.
