We are seeking a full-time Senior Backend Software Engineer, Integrations to help build and scale our third-party integrations and API ecosystem.
Location: The candidate must be based in Nova Scotia, Canada (remote friendly).
Who You AreYou are passionate about backend engineering and building reliable, scalable connections between systemsYou have strong experience designing and implementing third-party API integrations in production environmentsYou understand integration patterns such as webhooks, asynchronous processing, event-driven systems, and real-time data synchronizationYou are comfortable working with external APIs that may have inconsistent documentation, strict rate limits, unexpected behaviour, or varying levels of reliabilityYou enjoy investigating complex problems across multiple systems and finding practical, durable solutionsYou value observability, system reliability, and building integrations that work consistently at scaleWhat Will You Do?As a Senior Backend Software Engineer focused on integrations, you will help design, build, and improve connections between Event Temple and hospitality platforms, property management systems, email providers, payment processors, and other industry partners.
You can expect to:
Design and implement reliable, high-performance integrations with third-party APIsBuild integrations with property management systems, payment gateways, hospitality platforms, and other external servicesContribute to technical and architectural decisions for our growing integration ecosystemBuild and improve systems for monitoring integration health, API performance, failures, and data consistencyDevelop resilient integration workflows using retries, idempotency, rate limiting, error handling, and graceful degradationCollaborate with integration partners on technical requirements, API specifications, testing, and implementation detailsInvestigate and resolve complex production issues across Event Temple and external systemsImprove the scalability and reliability of background processing and synchronization workflowsWork with other engineers to establish and share best practices for APIs, integrations, and distributed systemsParticipate in technical discussions with partner engineering teams and contribute to integration planningThis is a senior individual-contributor role.
You will be expected to work independently, take ownership of complex technical problems, and collaborate closely with the broader engineering team.
QualificationsWe are looking for someone who has:
5+ years of professional software engineering experienceSignificant experience building and maintaining third-party API integrations in productionStrong backend development experience using Ruby on Rails or another modern server-side frameworkThe ability and interest to become productive in Ruby on RailsExperience designing reliable systems for high-volume, multi-tenant applicationsA strong understanding of REST APIs, webhooks, authentication, asynchronous processing, and background jobsExperience handling retries, idempotency, rate limits, timeouts, partial failures, and data consistencyExperience with observability practices, including monitoring, logging, tracing, and alertingExperience investigating and debugging complex issues across distributed systemsStrong written and verbal communication skillsThe ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with engineers, product teams, and external partners.Nice-to-Have ExperienceThe following experience would be considered an asset:
