About Transpoco
Transpoco builds the telematics platform that helps commercial vehicle fleets across Ireland, the UK, and Europe run more safely and efficiently.
We process live vehicle data every day and turn it into the reports and insights our customers use to make decisions.
We're the market-leading telematics platform in Ireland, with around 35 people also based in UK, France and Spain.
Transpoco’s innovation arm is now extending into autonomous and robotics applications.
We are working on precise positioning and perception for vehicles and mobile robots, alongside an academic research group.
We are working on two real world pilots.
Both put robots to work in demanding outdoor environments where reliable GNSS often isn't there when you need it.
Deploying robots is hard.
GNSS-denied navigation is harder.
That's the core of what this project is about.
We're hiring an early-career engineer to build these systems end to end: the software, the sensors, and the testing on real vehicles and sites.
No industry experience required.
A relevant degree, some hands-on project work, and a real interest in navigation and robotics matter more.

The positioning and perception problems are hard, but the pilots have to work on-site, so you see your work run in the real world.You'll work across software, positioning, perception, sensors, and hardware on the same project, rather than one narrow layer.Ground floor.

Getting robots to work reliably in the messy real world is harder than any model, and that's the problem you'd be on.What you'll do: the top priorities
Write the software that turns raw sensor data into detection, measurement, and positioning, mostly in ROS 2, C++, and Python.Successfully deploy robots in the real world that creates meaningful value for the end user.Work on the positioning stack: combine GNSS/GPS with SLAM and other localisation techniques to get reliable position estimates in real-world conditions.Integrate and calibrate sensors (LiDAR, cameras, IMU, GNSS receivers) and get them running reliably on real vehicles.Take the systems on-site to the pilots, test, debug, and iterate on what actually happens in the field.What you'll do: in support of the top priorities
Contribute to the research side: read the relevant work, try approaches, and be honest about what works and what doesn't.Move between software, sensors, and hardware as the pilots need, since the project is at an early stage.Keep clear notes and documentation on what you build so it's usable by the rest of the project.Provide technical input into customer projects, tenders, pilots, and product improvement discussions.What you'll bring
A degree in Computer Science, Robotics, Mechatronics, Electronic/Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
Equivalent hands-on experience is fine too.Programming in C++ and/or Python.
You don't need to be an expert, but you should be comfortable writing and debugging real code.Some exposure to ROS or ROS 2, from coursework, a project, an internship, or your own tinkering.A foundation in and genuine interest in positioning: GPS/GNSS, SLAM, and localisation.
This is the core of the project.A mechatronics mindset: comfortable across software, electronics, and hardware, and happy to get hands-on.Comfort with Linux and git.You want to see your code run on a real vehicle, not just in simulation.The ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritise effectively, and take ownership of issues through to resolution.A positive, curious, and ambitious mindset, we care far more about your potential than your CV.Bonus points if you have experience with (not required):
Hands-on work with GNSS/RTK, sensor fusion (EKF/UKF, particle filters), or SLAM.CAD (SolidWorks, Fusion 360, Onshape) for sensor mounts and hardware.Computer vision or point-cloud processing (OpenCV, PCL), or ML-based perception.Simulation (Gazebo, Isaac Sim, Webots).Embedded or real-time systems.A thesis, final-year project, or robotics competition involving hardware and software integration.Why you'll love working here:
