The Data Engineering team is part of the Cloud Technology Group which delivers cutting-edge cloud, edge and AI products to Akamai customers. We design, implement, deploy and operate data streaming platforms. Our primary mission is to enable Akamai product teams to develop high-performing operationally safe and secure products. Partner with the best As an Engineering Manager, you will lead and grow a team of system software and platform engineers. Your team will enhance platform core services. They will design and develop Customer and Operational Intelligence services for managing 100% availability and three 9's performance and reliability SLOs for FedRAMP, GDPR and SOX compliant data streaming platforms with 100% customer satisfaction. As a Manager Engineering, You Will Be Responsible For Engineering Leadership & Talent Development: Lead and grow a high-performing team by recruiting, coaching, and managing performance. Foster a culture of technical excellence, mentorship, and accountability, ensuring the team consistently delivers high-quality engineering outcomesLead-by-Example Technical Contribution: Serve as the primary technical escalation point, stepping in as a senior contributor for critical coding, debugging, and architecture fixes to ensure deliveryOwning Architecture: Own system design, architecture, and reliability (SLOs) for data streaming platforms, balancing long-term scalability with immediate delivery needsStriving to Operational Excellence & Compliance: Drive observability, automation, and process improvements to ensure system reliability and adherence to FedRAMP, GDPR, and SOX standardsMaintaining Strategic Stakeholder Alignment: Partner with product and business stakeholders to define technical roadmaps, manage backlogs, and align cross-team delivery timelinesDriving Innovation: Identify and integrate emerging technologies to enhance platform capabilities, reduce engineering barriers, and cutting edge performant stack Do What You Love To be successful in this role you will: Have relevant experience as a system or platform engineer with a focus on cloud servicesDemonstrate experience with software development using Golang, Python, Rust/C++ or JavaHave a working knowledge of contemporary CI/CD practices and tooling including deployment/configuration toolsHave experience with massive data platforms ( Spark, Kafka, etc) and design principlesDemonstrate experience with Observability, Performance Analytics and Security tools (e.g. VictoriaMetrics, Grafana, CloudWatch, Elasticsearch, Logstash, Kibana, DataDog)Be experienced with deployment/configuration management tools (Ansible, Puppet, Chef, Fabric)Have experience in troubleshooting complex Distributed Systems problems and handling customers' escalations About Us At Akamai, we make life better for billions of people, trillions of times a day.
