What we need you to bring.
Horizon is seeking an open, enthusiastic, experienced Senior Systems Engineer – Electric Propulsion.
You will lead the design, integration, and validation of advanced electric propulsion architectures for hybrid eVTOL aircraft.
This role involves close collaboration across multidisciplinary teams to develop high-performance, safe, and certifiable propulsion systems.
This includes motors, inverters, motor controllers, and power distribution units — that meet the demanding requirements of urban air mobility.
Your Day-to-Day
System-level design and integration of electric propulsion units (EPUs), including motors, inverters, and thermal management componentsDefine system and sub-system requirements, interface specifications, and performance targets based on vehicle-level needsSupport the development and verification of motor control algorithms and high-voltage power electronicsAnalyze and optimize propulsion performance across operational scenarios—hover, transition, and cruiseOversee thermal modeling and cooling strategies in collaboration with thermal and mechanical teamsCoordinate with suppliers for component selection, integration, and validation in accordance with aerospace standardsSupport safety and reliability analyses (FMEA, FTA, FHA) and contribute to system architecture trade studiesParticipate in lab-based testing, HIL (Hardware-in-the-Loop) setups, and ground/flight test campaignsDevelop and maintain documentation for system design, requirements traceability, and certification complianceBe an integral part of the team, projecting positive behaviours and influence onto the teamPossess an in-depth knowledge of the standards and specifications appropriate to the disciplineChallenge the status quo, bring new ideas to improve engineering quality, productivity and timeliness of deliveryEnforce standards, ensure rigor, resilience and continuous improvement in design solutions, meeting all regulatory requirements, conforming to specifications, quality and requirements within schedule and budgetAct as a project integrator and interface between project management and other engineering teamsStay up to date with, and implement the latest developments in your fieldDrive the continuous improvement of our processes to increase safety and efficiency
We are looking for people that will have the following qualifications and experiences: Demonstrated experience (7+ years) in a relevant role from aerospace or automotive, having worked across all phases of the lifecycle.
Ideally you would have hands on experience with systems engineering, and you will have familiarity with eVTOL Certification regulations from the TCCA, FAA, and EASA.

Location.
We are located just outside of Lindsay, in the Kawartha Lakes area of Ontario, Canada.
Our team is onsite at our facility, as a group, a minimum of two days per week.
We expect the same from you, and we are mindful of what a realistic commute would be to keep you safe and at your best.
We offer relocation allowances in appropriate cases.
We have a growing team in the Ottawa area, who are onsite in Lindsay less often.
