Description

Escrow.com is the world's largest and most trusted online escrow service. Buyers and sellers rely on us to hold their funds while multi-million-dollar deals are completed. Domain names, vehicles,, even entire businesses... you name it, we help people buy and sell it. Now we're looking for a Senior Full Stack Software Engineer to join us in Sydney. If you join a mega-cap technology company as the 10,000th hire you will struggle to figure out the impact you're making. If you join a startup, you might get to work on the latest fad, but you'll likely have few mentors to learn from, and your time will be spent working on toy problems that never change the world. Freelancer Group (that Escrow.com is part of), isn't like that - we're a just-right-sized business. We're small enough you'll get to really know the people you work with, but big enough you don't have to worry that the next order of whiteboard markers will empty the company bank account. Working for us isn't your typical cog-in-the-machine type of job. We work on dynamic and interesting real world problems every day: this isn't a boring career in corporate, every step bound by rules and heavy process. Here you'll get to work on a highly diverse, global set of internet-scale challenges making a meaningful difference. Plus you get to rapidly build your own skills: the nature of the work requires cross-functional knowledge. Working with us you'll not only build (and test, and deploy!) features that scale, but you'll have a direct impact on tens of millions of users worldwide. You'll architect web applications, write optimised SQL for massive data sets, structure extensible data and application logic, and design high-quality APIs. And you'll do all that using a mix of open-source tools and best-in-class commercial software. Our tech stack includes Python-based Flask (and some Golang) microservices, React.js front-end code, and traditional SQL RDBMS systems. Everything runs in Amazon Web Services. You can choose your own OS for your company laptop - most of our devs use Ubuntu Linux, but it's all good! In order to succeed in this role you will have: The ability to write code in a few web development languages, such as Python, Golang, PHP, Node.js or RubyExperience with relational databases and SQL, preferably MySQLA background or interest in web engineering at scaleThe ability to work in an agile team environment, continuously shipping to customersLinux experienceExperience building SaaS productsCloud computing experience, preferably AWSStrong written and verbal communication skillsA strong sense of ownership and the ability to self-manage workStrong troubleshooting skills and creative problem-solving abilityExperience with designing and implementing complex software systemsExperience with mentoring/training junior engineers To thrive you'll also bring: Experience with SOA, microservice and containerised architecturesFamiliarity with development of public-facing APIsExperience with a current-day Javascript framework, such as Angular, React, or VueExperience with TypeScriptA strong understanding of computer networking concepts and practicesA sound understanding of OWASP and modern web security practicesA passion for open-source tooling and libraries We'd consider it a bonus if you also brought: Strong academic achievementsMS or PhD degreesA Github/Gitlab page with contributions to open source softwareExperience leading an engineering team What we offer in return: A meritocratic culture with the ability to take ownership and fast track your career growth.
