Senior Software Developer

Our public sector client is seeking a Senior Software Developer for an onsite contract in Ontario. The successful candidate will design, develop, and maintain secure, scalable web and cloud-based applications while ensuring compliance with accessibility, security, and public sector standards. This role requires extensive experience with Java/Jakarta technologies, Azure cloud services, SQL Server, DevSecOps, and enterprise application development in a healthcare or public sector environment. Responsibilities Design, develop, implement, and maintain enterprise web, mobile, and client/server applications. Develop application solutions aligned with business and technical requirements. Create and maintain system design documents, technical specifications, and program documentation. Develop secure RESTful APIs and microservices using modern development practices. Build and maintain Azure cloud solutions, including Azure Data Factory, Azure SQL Database, API Management, AKS, and Azure Container Apps. Design and optimize SQL Server databases, stored procedures, queries, and data models. Develop and maintain CI/CD DevSecOps pipelines using GitHub and Azure DevOps. Ensure applications comply with AODA accessibility standards and security best practices. Participate in technical design, architecture, code reviews, and performance optimization. Support unit testing, integration testing, data validation, user acceptance testing, and defect resolution. Must-Have Qualifications 10+ years of enterprise software development experience. Strong expertise in Java/Jakarta (J2EE), MVC, JavaScript/jQuery, JPA/Hibernate, REST & SOAP APIs. Extensive experience with Microsoft SQL Server 2019+, including T-SQL, stored procedures, data modelling, and query optimization. 3+ years of hands-on experience with Azure Cloud Services, including Azure API Management, Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS), Azure Container Apps, Azure Data Factory, Azure SQL Database, and Azure Entra ID. Experience with Azure Data Factory pipelines and cloud/on-premises data integration. 5+ years of experience using Git, GitHub/Azure DevOps, and issue tracking tools. 3+ years of experience building CI/CD DevSecOps pipelines, including automated deployments, testing, and security scanning. Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, Microservices, and RESTful API development. Strong experience with SQL, ETL/ELT, and enterprise data integration. Experience developing secure applications using OAuth/SAML, TLS/mTLS, RBAC/ABAC, and Zero Trust security principles. Experience ensuring applications comply with AODA accessibility standards. Experience developing solutions in healthcare environments with knowledge of PHIPA/FIPPA privacy and security requirements. Experience working in Agile software development environments. Nice-to-Have Qualifications Experience working with the Ontario Public Sector (OPS) or broader public sector organizations. Experience delivering healthcare IT projects. Knowledge of OPS Enterprise Architecture standards and project methodologies. Experience producing architecture artifacts and technical documentation. Knowledge of PMI and public sector project management methodologies. Experience with application performance tuning and production support. Strong leadership, stakeholder management, and communication skills. Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving abilities.
