Senior API Backend Developer

One Federal Solution is seeking an experienced API Backend Developer to support the National Agricultural Library (NAL) Library Support System. The successful candidate will provide backend development services with a primary focus on API development, maintenance, and enhancement of database-driven applications. This role also includes applying artificial intelligence techniques to extract structured information from diverse scientific publications, supporting modernization initiatives, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver secure, scalable, and high-performing applications. Key Responsibilities Provide backend development support for the NAL Library Support System with a primary focus on API development and integrationMaintain and enhance database-driven applications and RESTful and GraphQL APIsApply AI techniques to extract structured information from diverse scientific publicationsDesign, develop, test, and maintain scalable backend services using Python, Django, GraphQL, REST APIs, SQL Server, MySQL, and related technologiesSupport modernization and technology refresh efforts for legacy applications and systemsDevelop and maintain API integrations that support business processes and application interoperabilityCollaborate with Systems Analysts and Project Coordinators to evaluate existing applications and define migration and modernization strategiesUtilize Git and GitHub for source code management and collaborative software developmentDevelop and support containerized applications using DockerWork effectively in Linux environments, including command-line utilities and system administration tasksEnsure applications comply with modern web development standards and best practicesSupport accessibility compliance by ensuring ICT deliverables meet Section 508 requirements and WCAG 2.x AA accessibility standardsProvide excellent customer service while working collaboratively with technical teams and stakeholdersPerform effectively both independently and as part of an Agile development team Required Qualifications Minimum of 6 years of professional experience developing enterprise applications using SQL Server, MySQL, Python, Django, GraphQL, REST APIs, and Linux command-line environmentsExpert knowledge of modern web development standards with demonstrated practical experienceExperience applying AI techniques to extract structured information from diverse scientific publicationsExperience modernizing and performing technology refreshes for legacy systemsMinimum of 2 years of experience working with open-source technologies and toolsProficiency using version control systems, including Git and GitHubExperience with containerization technologies such as DockerExperience with relational databases, including MySQL and PostgreSQLStrong working knowledge of Linux operating systems, command-line tools, and utilitiesExpert knowledge of HTML, XHTML, and CSS standards with practical implementation experienceKnowledge of U.S. Web Design Standards and the USDA Digital Strategy PlaybookMinimum of 2 years of practical experience performing Section 508 conformance testing and remediation of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) deliverablesPractical experience ensuring ICT deliverables comply with WCAG 2.x AA accessibility standards or higherAbility to collaborate effectively with Systems Analysts, Project Coordinators, and technical teams to evaluate and define application migration pathsAbility to work independently and collaboratively in a team environmentExcellent communication and customer service skills About One Federal Solution: One Federal Solution (OFS) is an innovative Professional Services provider with over 20 years of experience supporting Defense and Civilian agencies.
