About the RoleWe are looking for a Junior Technical Support Engineer who enjoys understanding how software works, solving technical problems and wants to build a career in enterprise software engineering. This is a fully remote position within Australia. Due to the security requirements of our government customers, applicants must be Australian citizens, reside in Australia, and be willing to obtain and maintain an Australian Government Baseline Security Clearance. This is a hands-on technical role focused on investigating software issues, reproducing defects, analysing system behaviour and supporting the deployment and operation of our applications. You will work closely with software engineers, implementation teams and customers to understand technical problems and help drive them through to resolution. You’ll develop a practical understanding of how modern web applications operate, investigate complex technical issues, troubleshoot methodically and become increasingly comfortable reading and writing code. As your experience grows, you’ll also have opportunities to contribute software fixes, automation scripts and internal tooling, providing a clear pathway into software engineering. ResponsibilitiesInvestigate and troubleshoot customer-reported technical issues.Reproduce software defects and document clear findings for developers.Analyse application logs, error messages and system behaviour.Assist with software deployments, upgrades and configuration changes.Work with developers to identify root causes and validate fixes.Write basic SQL queries to support technical investigations.Maintain internal documentation, support procedures and troubleshooting guides.Communicate clearly and professionally with customers throughout the support process.Escalate issues appropriately and provide developers with the technical context required for effective resolution. Required SkillsAustralian citizenship.Residence within Australia.Willingness to obtain and maintain an Australian Government Baseline Security Clearance.Strong written and verbal communication skills.Some experience writing Java applications.Some experience with JavaScript and modern web development.Understanding of HTML, CSS, REST APIs and JSON.Ability to write basic SQL queries.Familiarity with Git and source control concepts.Comfortable working with Linux and the command line.Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.Ability to investigate issues methodically and document findings clearly.Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively in a remote engineering team. We are particularly interested in candidates who build their own software projects and are willing to demonstrate and discuss their work. This may include university assignments, personal applications, open-source contributions, automation scripts or other technical projects. We’re looking for people who enjoy understanding how systems work and solving technical problems. You don’t need years of commercial experience, but you should be curious, methodical and willing to work through unfamiliar issues. You should be comfortable asking questions, testing assumptions and following a problem from the initial report through to a verified resolution. Relevant experience may come from employment, internships, university projects, personal software projects or open-source contributions. Desirable SkillsExperience with Angular, React, Node.js or similar JavaScript technologies.Experience working with SQL databases.Exposure to cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure or Google Cloud.Familiarity with Docker or containerised applications.Experience supporting enterprise or SaaS software.Knowledge of system integrations, REST APIs or identity technologies.Experience using AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT or Claude.
