Senior Design Engineer

Tassel is seeking a Senior Design Engineer who lives at the intersection of product design, user research, and code - someone who thinks like a designer but builds like an engineer. You will be embedded directly within our frontend engineering team, owning the end-to-end user experience from research and user personas through interaction design, accessibility, production implementation, and iteration. You will build production-quality interfaces while scaling the entire team’s ability to ship polished experiences faster. You will also own and expand the design system, component library, patterns, tools, and guardrails that allow engineers and product managers to build rapidly with AI without sacrificing usability, consistency, accessibility, or visual craft. Key Responsibilities Own user research, interviews, usability testing, and user personasTranslate user needs into clear product flows, prototypes, and production experiencesBuild production-quality UI components and interactions across desktop and mobileOwn accessibility standards and ensure inclusive experiences across the productEmbed within the frontend team and increase its design and development velocityRapidly prototype new products, workflows, and interaction patternsOwn the quality and consistency of UI implementation across the productBuild and scale Tassel’s design system, component library, and frontend patternsCreate tools and guardrails that help engineers and PMs build polished interfaces with AIIdentify and improve confusing or inconsistent experiences without waiting to be askedExplore conversational, agentic, voice, and UI-less product experiencesPartner with Product and Engineering from discovery through production You Might Be a Fit If You are equally comfortable interviewing users, working in Figma, and writing frontend codeYou have strong frontend skills with React, TypeScript, HTML, and CSSYou have strong product design, interaction design, visual design, and HCI fundamentalsYou have experience conducting user research and turning insights into product decisionsYou understand accessibility standards and know how to apply them in design and codeYou have shipped polished products and know what it takes to get from 90% to 100%You can prototype ideas in hours, not daysYou think in systems and build reusable, maintainable componentsYou independently notice problems, improve them, and push fixes into productionYou actively use AI coding agents and emerging development tools
