About the Role Our client is a growing sports and prediction markets technology company that has recently established its engineering base in Lisbon, Portugal. They build the real-time data and trading infrastructure that powers market making on sports betting exchanges, sitting as the technical layer between liquidity providers and the venues where prices are quoted. As their Back-End Engineer - Trading Systems, you will take ownership of the market making side of that infrastructure, developing, improving, and scaling the engine that executes across multiple exchanges. This Back-End Engineer - Trading Systems role is a hands-on backend position at the intersection of technology and finance. If you are motivated by distributed systems challenges, latency optimisation, and building trading systems in the sports betting and prediction markets space, this Lisbon-based backend engineering opportunity will suit you well. The company is small, focused, and moving quickly. You will have real scope to shape how the market making engine develops, and your work will have a direct and measurable impact on execution quality across the platform. Key Responsibilities As the Back-End Engineer - Trading Systems, you will design, build, and evolve the backend systems that run our client's market making engine across multiple sports betting exchanges, making sure execution stays reliable and scalable as volumes grow. You will work on high-performance systems that process high-frequency data and manage live order flow in real time, with a constant focus on latency, throughput, and stability. You will optimise these systems for performance, identifying bottlenecks and re-engineering components where they limit speed or reliability. You will work closely with the odds feed API team and the API betting team, integrating cleanly with upstream data sources and downstream betting interfaces so that pricing and execution stay consistent end to end. You will contribute to architectural decisions around distributed systems, helping the platform scale across additional venues without compromising reliability. You will take part in code review, testing, and deployment using modern engineering workflows, and you will help maintain a high engineering standard across the codebase.
