As part of the BRS Shipbrokers Dry Bulk Research Desk, you will work on real-world problems where AI, data and maritime expertise come together. You will help transform large and complex datasets into practical insights, develop greenfield tools used by brokers and decision-makers, and contribute to how a global shipbroking firm understands and navigates an increasingly unpredictable world. This is not a role focused on theoretical AI or isolated technical projects. Your work will have a direct commercial application in one of the world’s most dynamic and globally connected industries. Position We are looking for a Junior Software Engineer (M/F) for our BRS Shipbrokers’ Athens office. Your main missions and responsabilities This position combines software engineering foundations with practical AI application development, focusing on Python, backend services, data pipelines, cloud deployment, and LLM-powered solutions. Support the work of Dry Bulk brokers and the Dry Bulk Research team as required.Develop and maintain AI-powered applications using Python and Large Language Models (LLMs) that transform complex shipping and market data into actionable insights for the Dry Bulk Research team.Support the deployment, monitoring, and maintenance of cloud-based applications that improve the speed, quality, and consistency of market analysis.Work with SQL databases and data processing pipelines that enable brokers to access, explore, and analyze maritime data more efficiently, helping them make faster and better-informed commercial decisions.Build and enhance backend services and REST APIs that enable brokers and research analysts to seamlessly access internal data and AI-powered tools.Integrate AI solutions with internal business systems, enabling research analysts and brokers to leverage data more effectively throughout their daily workflows.Collaborate closely with shipbrokers, research analysts, and technical teams to transform business challenges into scalable solutions.Continuously learn and adopt new AI technologies and development best practices. Your profile Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Computer Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or another relevant quantitative discipline.A Master's degree in Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Data Science, or a related discipline is considered an advantage.Relevant academic projects involving AI, machine learning, software development, or data engineering are considered a plus.1–2 years of experience in Software Engineering, AI Engineering, or a related role.Good knowledge of Python.Familiarity with SQL and relational databases.Understanding of REST APIs; FastAPI is a plus.Basic knowledge of Large Language Models (LLMs) and Generative AI.Knowledge of software engineering fundamentals, including object-oriented programming, clean coding principles, testing, and version control best practices.Familiarity with Git.Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.Excellent communication skills and eagerness to learn.Experience with Microsoft Azure.Strong organizational skills and ability to work under time pressure.Conscientious, with a very good eye for detail and quality control.Nice to Have: Experience with Docker.Familiarity with Microsoft Fabric or other data platforms.Basic frontend knowledge, such as React or TypeScript.Experience with prompt engineering or AI application development We are looking forward to hearing from you.
