As we continue to expand, we are seeking a skilled and versatile Software Engineer to help build, enhance, and maintain the software systems that underpin our operational, commercial, and customer-facing capabilities. Role Summary: This role is ideal for a hands-on Senior Software Engineer who enjoys taking full ownership of the systems and products they build, from initial concept and design through to implementation, deployment, and ongoing operation. You will play a key role in shaping the technical direction of our platforms, leading the delivery of complex projects, and making design and architectural decisions that support our continued growth. Working across modern cloud-based systems, APIs, integrations, automation services, and internal tools, you will be empowered to define solutions, influence technology choices, and drive outcomes across multiple business domains. You will collaborate closely with product, systems analysts, data teams, operational stakeholders, and external vendors to deliver robust, scalable, and reliable software solutions. Key Responsibilities Software Development & Platform Engineering Lead the design and delivery of software projects from inception through deployment and ongoing support.Contribute to technical decision-making across services and platforms, including architecture, technology selection, system design, and implementation approaches.Drive the evolution of software platforms to ensure scalability, maintainability, security, and operational excellence.Mentor and support other engineers through technical guidance, code reviews, and knowledge sharing. Technical Leadership & Project Ownership Independently lead software initiatives and projects from requirements gathering through design, implementation, testing, deployment, and post-release support.Work with both technical and non-technical stakeholders to define solutions, align priorities, mitigate risks, and drive issues to resolution.Facilitate technical discussions and influence decision-making across engineering, product, operations, and external partners.Produce high-quality technical designs and architecture proposals that balance business requirements with long-term platform sustainability.Identify opportunities for platform improvements, technical debt reduction, automation, and process optimisation.Champion engineering best practices across software development, testing, observability, security, and operational reliability. API & Integration Development Define integration patterns and architectural approaches that support long-term platform growth and reliability.Lead the design and implementation of complex integrations involving internal and third-party systems.Ensure reliable data flows between chargers, payments systems, customer platforms, and internal tools.Support event-driven architectures and asynchronous processing for operational workflows.Troubleshoot integration issues and contribute to improving system reliability and observability. Platform Optimisation & Vendor Management Drive technical investigations and coordinate resolution of complex operational and platform issues across multiple stakeholders.Act as a senior technical representative when engaging with vendors and partners, ensuring technical requirements and business objectives are aligned. Automation & Internal Tooling Develop automation scripts, services, and internal applications to reduce manual effort and improve operational efficiency.Collaborate with systems analysts to translate business processes into scalable technical solutions.Support low-code automation initiatives by providing APIs, data services, and backend logic. Quality, Testing & Reliability Contribute to automated testing, CI/CD pipelines, and code quality practices.Support QA activities across internal and third-party platforms, including validation of billing, payments, and data workflows.Help document system behaviour, integration patterns, and technical processes. Requirements Essential: 5+ years’ experience in software engineering or backend development.Proven experience leading software projects or technical workstreams from concept through production delivery.Experience making architectural and system design decisions for distributed or cloud-based applications.Strong stakeholder management skills and experience working with both technical and non-technical teams.Ability to independently drive technical initiatives and resolve ambiguity in complex problem spaces.Experience mentoring engineers or providing technical leadership within a development team.Strong programming skills in Python, Java, or similar modern languages.Experience building and maintaining API-driven systems, integrations, or microservices.Familiarity with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, or GCP) and modern development tooling.Experience working with databases (SQL or NoSQL) and data processing workflows.Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with cross-functional teams. Desirable (but not mandatory): Experience with payments, billing systems, or transaction-processing platforms.Exposure to CPMS, IoT platforms, or e-mobility systems.Familiarity with event-driven architectures (queues, pub/sub, serverless functions).Experience with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, or DevOps practices.Interest in sustainability, EV technology, or energy systems.
