Description

PTL Limited is seeking to recruit a Senior Systems Engineer to join its Technical Solutions team. This role is ideal for an experienced infrastructure professional with strong hands-on expertise to design, implement, optimise, and support enterprise IT infrastructure across complex client environments. THE POSITION Based in Malta and reporting to the Head of Technical Solutions, the Senior Systems Engineer will be responsible for the design, implementation, administration, optimisation, monitoring, and support of enterprise infrastructure solutions across client and internal environments. The role encompasses server platforms, virtualisation, storage, networking, cloud infrastructure, and operating systems, ensuring secure, resilient, scalable, and high-performing technology solutions aligned with industry best practices. Working within a managed services environment, the Senior Systems Engineer will act as a Level 3 technical escalation point, leading root cause analysis of complex infrastructure issues, implementing automation and continuous improvements, supporting infrastructure projects, and maintaining comprehensive technical documentation and standards. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with architects, project teams, and cross-functional stakeholders, contributing to solution design, project delivery, and, where required, pre-sales technical activities. The role also includes mentoring junior engineers, promoting technical best practices, and supporting the delivery of innovative, reliable, and scalable infrastructure services across multiple client environments. The role requires supporting infrastructure resilience through monitoring, backup, redundancy, disaster recovery, and incident response practices to meet agreed service levels. Participation in an on-call support rota will be required. THE REQUIREMENTS The ideal candidate will hold an MQF Level 6 qualification in Information Technology, Computer Science, Systems Engineering, or a related discipline, or demonstrate equivalent practical experience, together with 5+ years' experience designing, implementing, and supporting enterprise infrastructure within complex enterprise or managed services environments. Candidates should have strong hands-on experience with Windows Server and/or Linux, enterprise virtualisation technologies (such as VMware, Hyper-V, Proxmox, and/or Docker), storage solutions, and Microsoft Azure, including hybrid environments. Experience with infrastructure monitoring, high availability, backup, disaster recovery, scripting and automation using PowerShell, Bash, or Python, and performance optimisation is also required. Experience delivering complex infrastructure projects, supporting enterprise storage and SAN technologies, and exposure to Microsoft SQL Server will be considered an asset, as will relevant Microsoft, VMware, Linux, or cloud certifications.
