This role is ideal for a highly collaborative engineer who thrives in a centralised platform role and is passionate about developer productivity and platform excellence. As a Platform Engineer (Developer Experience), you will play a key role in building and evolving platform solutions—such as internal tooling, SDKs, paved-road workflows, and middleware—that empower hundreds of developers to ship faster and more reliably. What You'll Do Design and support platform solutions that empower 300+ developers across 40+ product teams (e.g., internal tooling, standards, SDKs, and middleware that improve developer workflows)Build and evolve our gRPC-GraphQL gateway that connects frontends with backend servicesCreate internal tools and libraries/SDKs to enhance developer productivity and platform adoptionAnalyse and optimise platform systems to enhance scale, performance, reliability, and developer experienceWork hand-in-hand with product teams to ensure seamless platform integration and a strong feedback loopDocument platform capabilities and run internal training sessionsCollaborate with other platform teams to create a coherent developer platformDrive technical excellence by simplifying platform architecture and managing technical debt What You Need To Succeed 3+ years of experience in platform engineering and/or backend developmentStrong programming skills in a JVM language (e.g., Kotlin, Java, Scala); Kotlin is a bonusExperience building production-grade backend systems with attention to reliability, performance, and maintainabilityA strong engineering mindset for enabling other teams: you enjoy reducing friction, improving “paved roads,” and raising standards through tooling and automationExperience with modern engineering practices for high-availability platforms, including testing strategies, performance optimization, and reliability considerationsExperience in establishing observability practices and instrumenting platforms for monitoring and debuggingYou are data-driven and passionate about using metrics to evaluate platform performance and adoptionStrong communication skills, with the ability to build relationships across teamsComfortable working in a highly collaborative environment, engaging in code reviews, pair programming, and cross-team discussions Nice to Have Experience building developer tooling / Developer Experience initiatives (e.g., internal platforms, CLI tools, SDKs, templates, golden paths, CI/CD improvements)Experience with gRPC and GraphQL, particularly in building middleware or gateway layersExperience working with KafkaStrong Gradle experience Note: We welcome Backend Engineers who are excited to move closer to Developer Experience and platform enablement.
