Description

Most CloudOps roles lean heavily towards either infrastructure or databases. This one sits in the difficult bit between the two. You’ll work on a large-scale AWS platform powering AI-driven assessment products used by 40+ million learners and processing 24 billion questions every year. The challenge is keeping that platform fast, reliable and predictable as it continues to scale. This isn’t a DBA role with a bit of AWS, or a DevOps role where you occasionally touch RDS. You’ll move across the stack, diagnosing database and system bottlenecks, improving MariaDB and PostgreSQL performance on RDS, digging into Linux and AWS infrastructure, automating operational work and helping modernise large-scale production systems without breaking what already works. The environment includes: AWS: RDS, ECS, EC2, VPC, IAM, ALB/NLB, Route53 and CloudFront Databases: MariaDB and PostgreSQL Engineering: Python, POSIX shell, Docker and GitHub Actions Observability: Datadog and CloudWatch You’ll suit this role if you’ve operated serious production systems and are comfortable moving between SQL, infrastructure, code and observability rather than treating them as separate problems. There’s real ownership here, difficult technical work and plenty of scope to improve how the platform is built and operated not just keep the lights on. Interested? Drop me a message and I’ll give you the proper detail on the platform, technical challenges and team.
