SQA Automation Engineer

Summary of Position: The QA / Automation Engineer (Hybrid) is responsible for verifying feature quality across PetSafe's DTC eCommerce websites and for developing and maintaining automated test scripts that support the team's web and API test coverage. The role will support manual ticket verification for the DTC Web / Mobile Web scrum team, contribute to automated regression and API test coverage, and help extend continuous testing through the team's CI/CD pipelines. Working closely with Quality Assurance professionals, Automation Engineers, Product Managers, and Developers, the QA / Automation Engineer (Hybrid) will play a key role in improving software quality, supporting release cycles, and growing the team's automated test coverage across PetSafe's DTC brands and eCommerce platforms. Responsibilities: QA Tasks & Ticket Verification • Work closely with the QA lead to verify features against acceptance criteria across DTC web and mobile web platforms • Write, execute, and maintain manual regression and functional test cases • Identify and clearly document defects with reproducible steps, supporting evidence, and environment details • Perform test case execution and exploratory testing across PetSafe's DTC eCommerce websites (PetSafe, IFB, Kurgo, SportDog) • Contribute to test analysis and identify test cases that are strong candidates for automation • Communicate test findings and defect status clearly to developers, product managers, and the SQA team • Participate in Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, refinement, stand-ups, reviews, and retrospectives Automation Development & Execution • Write, execute, and maintain automated test scripts for web and mobile web platforms under the guidance of the Sr. Automation Engineer III • Write and maintain Java-based test cases using TestNG and Selenium WebDriver within the DTC web automation framework • Configure basic TestNG XML suite definitions • Run Maven builds and understand dependency management basics • Write and maintain Playwright-based automated API tests for eCommerce integrations and third-party services • Run automated test suites locally and via Jenkins CI/CD pipelines across Development, UAT, Staging, and Production environments • Read and interpret SQL JDBC query results for basic backend data validation • Report pass/fail status for each feature release including regression and automation execution outcomes • Document automation failures with clear, reproducible steps and escalate blockers to the Sr. Automation Engineer III • Interact with the GitHub repository using branching workflows, pull requests, and version control best practices Collaboration & Reporting • Collaborate with the SQA Manager, Sr. Automation Engineer III, eCommerce developers, and product managers using Jira, Confluence, and Microsoft Teams • Coordinate with the broader SQA team and third-party testing partners to assign and track feature validation work against sprint delivery targets • Manage defects through their full lifecycle — from identification and documentation through resolution and verification • Provide regular sprint updates on automation progress, feature validation status, and coverage metrics • Maintain testing documentation and contribute to automation standards documentation as directed Required Qualifications and Experience • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related discipline, or equivalent experience • 1+ years of professional QA experience • Working knowledge of Java for test automation, or demonstrated ability to learn — TestNG, page object models, and helper classes • Familiarity with Selenium WebDriver for web automation • Familiarity with Playwright for web and API automation • Familiarity with manual testing techniques including exploratory, regression, functional, and integration testing • Understanding of mobile, web, and backend SDLC • Experience with Agile software development methodologies, including SCRUM and Kanban • Understanding of core QA methodologies including risk-based testing and continuous QA • Understanding of API concepts and ability to test web integrations • Understanding of version control and branching workflows (GitHub) • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and modern DevOps practices, including running tests via Jenkins • Basic HTML/CSS familiarity for debugging and test case writing • Experience using Jira, Confluence, and test management tools • Able to complete tasks independently with some ambiguity — knows when to ask for help and when to push forward • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills • Strong written and verbal communication skills — confident documenting bugs, test results, and automation failures for a cross-functional audience Preferred • Prior exposure to eCommerce or DTC web platforms • Experience with cloud-based testing environments • Experience with performance or load testing tools • Familiarity with SQL and basic database validation techniques • Experience working with third-party integrations and microservice architectures • Curiosity and motivation to build skills across both manual QA and automation discipline BENEFITS: Private medical insurance7% pensionWorkAWAY- 4 weeks from abroad!Gym membershipFree Breakfast for all Employees on Site.26 Days Annual Leave plus Public Holidays.Employee assistance programWellness programBike to work schemeBring your dog to the office!Learning and development opportunities.Rich engagement culture with company events planned on a regular basis.Paid Maternity and Paternity leave.Flexibility.Sabbatical leave as well as bonus after continuous years of service.Performance related bonus.
