Technical Product Manager

Skyward Wildfire Technologies is building a first-of-its-kind platform for predicting and preventing lightning-ignited wildfires. Backed by more than C$12 million in seed funding, we are looking for an exceptional Technical Product Manager to own the roadmap for our lightning and wildfire-risk forecasting platform. This is not a conventional backlog-management role. You will work at the intersection of atmospheric science, machine learning, software, customer needs, and real world wildfire operations. Your job will be to turn complex research into reliable operational products and help us ship on the unforgiving timelines of fire season. The decisions made through our products can affect how public agencies and private operators allocate resources, prepare for high risk storms, protect communities and infrastructure, and manage their exposure to wildfire. We need a product leader who is energized by that responsibility. The role As Technical Product Manager, you will own the strategy, roadmap, and delivery of Skyward’s forecasting products while helping shape the systems that connect better prediction with field operations. What you'll do Own the product strategy and roadmap for Vista, Skyward’s machine learning-powered lightning and wildfire risk forecasting platform.Help translate advanced scientific capabilities into products that buyers can understand, operational users can trust, and organizations can deploy at scale.Work with scientists and engineers to define product specifications, acceptance criteria, performance metrics, and operational requirements.Pressure test model outputs, assumptions, validation approaches, and trade offs before capabilities reach operational users.Determine which technical, operational, and customer problems matter most, then establish a clear sequence for solving them.Manage dependencies across modelling, data, software, systems integration, and operational deployment.Partner with Skyward’s business development team on customer discovery, pilots, deployment planning, and the translation of market feedback into product decisions.Build feedback loops between customers, operators, scientists, and engineers so that field experience continually improves the product.Establish clear product development processes without introducing unnecessary bureaucracy.Communicate roadmap decisions, technical risks, product performance, customer requirements, and trade-offs to executive leadership and external partners. What we're looking for You are a deeply technical, high agency product leader who can move comfortably between scientific research, software systems, customer needs, and real world operational environments. You do not need to be an atmospheric scientist or machine learning engineer, but you must be technical enough to earn their trust, ask difficult questions, understand the answers, and make sound product decisions. You should also be commercially minded. We are particularly interested in candidates who understand how to turn an advanced technical capability into a product that customers can evaluate, adopt, integrate, and scale. Strong candidates will bring: A track record of shipping technically complex, data intensive, or machine learning products.Experience owning a product roadmap from problem definition through launch, adoption, and iteration.The technical fluency to engage meaningfully with machine learning models, data pipelines, APIs, software architecture, and systems integrations.Experience translating ambiguous scientific, technical, operational, or customer requirements into executable product plans.An understanding of how government and enterprise customers assess, procure, pilot, integrate, and adopt new technology.Strong judgment about when to move quickly, when to seek more evidence, and when a system is ready for operational use. Experience in any of the following areas would be especially valuable: Enterprise software, data platforms, or decision support products.Products used in regulated, asset intensive, operational, or safety critical industries.Customer pilots, proofs of concept, and early commercial deployments.Products that rely on probabilistic forecasts, model outputs, or complex scientific data.Bringing a research prototype or emerging technical capability into a dependable production environment. We do not expect one candidate to have experience in every area listed above. What this role is not This is not a role for someone who wants to manage tickets from a distance. You will be expected to develop a deep understanding of the science, technology, customers, users, and operational context behind the product. You will have substantial ownership, limited bureaucracy, and direct access to the people making technical and company-level decisions. With that ownership comes accountability for making difficult trade offs and helping the team ship. What success looks like In your first months you will: Develop a detailed understanding of Skyward's underlying models, its current users, and the operational decisions it supports.Build strong working relationships with Skyward’s atmospheric science, machine learning, software, operations, and business-development teams.Establish a clear product roadmap tied to measurable technical, customer, and operational outcomes.Identify the most important gaps between current research capabilities and dependable operational products.Develop a clear understanding of what organizations require from a forecasting product.Improve how product decisions, customer insights, technical dependencies, and delivery risks are communicated across the company. Over time you will: Help make Skyward an indispensable operational tool for wildfire agencies and commercial partners.Improve the reliability, usability, and scalability of Skyward’s forecasting products.Shorten the path from scientific insight to production capability.Shape the enterprise features, integrations, and workflows required to support larger deployments.Shape how forecasting connects with Skyward’s broader platform.Build the product foundation required to deploy across additional regions, industries, and environments. We strongly prefer someone who can work in a hybrid capacity in Vancouver, British Columbia. Exceptional candidates elsewhere in Canada will also be considered, particularly those able to collaborate across Pacific time zone working hours.
