Location: ACT and all other major cities of Australia Contract: 12 Months + 2 x 12 Month Extension Options Security Clearance: NV1 Security Clearance Mandatory Citizenship: Australian Citizenship Mandatory About the Role We are seeking an experienced AI Engineer to design, develop and implement secure, scalable and governed Artificial Intelligence solutions within a federal government environment. This role will work closely with business stakeholders, cyber security specialists, architects and data professionals to deliver innovative AI-enabled services that improve business outcomes, enhance service delivery and align with government governance and security requirements. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to enterprise AI initiatives leveraging the latest Microsoft technologies, agentic AI frameworks and automation capabilities. Key ResponsibilitiesDesign, develop and deploy AI solutions using Azure AI services and the Microsoft technology stack.Build and maintain AI agents, Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG) solutions, intelligent automation workflows and AI-powered business applications.Develop intuitive front-end experiences that maximise adoption, usability and business value.Create and maintain APIs, integrations and microservices to connect AI capabilities with enterprise systems and external data sources.Design and implement vector search capabilities, document intelligence solutions and data ingestion pipelines.Conduct AI testing, evaluation and validation activities to ensure solution accuracy, reliability, performance and effectiveness.Perform AI assurance activities including model evaluation, explainability assessments, bias testing, prompt injection testing and adversarial testing.Implement security, privacy and governance controls aligned with responsible AI principles and organisational policies.Support AI governance processes, including assessment, assurance and registration of AI use cases.Produce technical documentation, architecture artefacts, operational procedures and knowledge transfer materials.Collaborate with business stakeholders to identify opportunities for automation and AI-driven innovation.Key DeliverablesProduction-ready AI and agentic solutions.AI integrations with enterprise systems and data platforms.AI governance, assurance and compliance artefacts.Technical designs, operational documentation and support procedures.AI evaluation, testing and performance reports.Knowledge transfer and capability uplift across internal teams.Essential Skills and Experience AI EngineeringStrong experience with Python and/or JavaScript/TypeScript.Hands-on experience with:Azure AI FoundryAzure OpenAICopilot StudioAI Agents and Agentic AI frameworksExperience developing:RAG solutionsPrompt engineering solutionsTool/function calling capabilitiesConversational AI and intelligent assistantsExperience with agent orchestration frameworks such as Microsoft Agent Framework, LangChain or similar.Knowledge of GenAI evaluation frameworks covering accuracy, hallucination detection and bias assessment.Experience conducting AI red teaming, adversarial testing and prompt injection assessments.Backend & IntegrationAPI development using FastAPI, .NET and/or Node.js.Microservices architecture and workflow orchestration.Integration of AI solutions with enterprise applications, databases, APIs and business systems.Experience implementing vector databases, search services and document processing solutions.Governance & SecurityStrong understanding of Responsible AI principles.Experience implementing AI governance, privacy, security and assurance controls.Experience working within government or highly regulated environments.Understanding of AI risk management, compliance and assurance processes.Essential Selection Designing, developing and deploying enterprise AI solutions using Microsoft technologies including Azure AI Foundry, Copilot Studio and AI Agents.Integrating AI solutions with enterprise systems, APIs, databases and business applications, including Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG) implementations.Applying AI governance, responsible AI, security, privacy and assurance requirements within government or highly regulated environments.Engaging stakeholders, translating business requirements into AI use cases and delivering measurable business outcomes through automation and AI solutions.Producing high-quality documentation, knowledge transfer materials and working collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams.To Be Successful You Will HaveStrong problem-solving and analytical skills.Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills.Ability to work independently and within cross-functional teams.Experience delivering enterprise-grade AI solutions from concept through to production.For further details, contact Sumeet on 02 6113 7534.
