Python Developer - Sydney - Buy-Side - Financial Services My client is a global trading firm where you'll build high-performance backend platforms that power research, trading, and core business operations. This is a hands-on engineering role focused on designing scalable systems, solving complex technical problems, and working alongside world-class engineers, researchers, and traders. Candidates from tier-1 trading firms or leading technology companies are encouraged to apply. Responsibilities Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services and distributed systems in Python.Build robust APIs, data processing pipelines, and automation tools supporting trading and research platforms.Optimise system performance, reliability, and latency across production environments.Develop software for Linux-based production infrastructure and improve operational tooling.Collaborate closely with traders, quantitative researchers, and infrastructure teams to deliver high-quality solutions.Troubleshoot production issues and drive continuous improvements to system stability and performance. Requirements 3+ years of professional backend development experience. (Open to Java, C#, C++, Golang)Strong software engineering fundamentals and experience building backend applications.Excellent Linux systems knowledge, including debugging, performance tuning, and shell scripting.Experience developing production-grade distributed systems or high-performance backend services.Strong understanding of networking, concurrency, and system design principles.Experience with SQL and working with large datasets.Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to thrive in a fast-paced engineering environment. Nice to Have Experience within a quantitative trading, hedge fund, HFT, or financial markets environment.Candidates from leading technology companies with strong backend engineering experience are also encouraged to apply.Exposure to cloud infrastructure, containerisation, CI/CD, or Infrastructure-as-Code.Knowledge of market data, exchange connectivity, or low-latency systems is advantageous.
