Description

WE’RE HIRING: SOFTWARE DEVELOPER — GO / AI-ASSISTED DEVELOPMENT Covered 6 is hiring a mid-level Software Developer to join its technology team in Moorpark, California. Covered 6 is not a conventional software company. It operates where software, physical systems, and real-world public safety meet. Its technology supports camera and access-control integrations, real-time intelligence, drone operations, weapons accountability, and C6 Deploy—its modern CAD and dispatch platform. The software built here does not exist merely to populate dashboards. It supports people making real decisions in real environments. Reliability, clarity, security, and operational usefulness matter. This is a full-time, on-site position in Moorpark, California. WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FORWe are looking for a capable developer with approximately two to six years of professional experience who is already productive in Go. You do not need prior experience in public safety, security operations, dispatch systems, drones, or access-control technology. Those things can be learned. What matters is that you can build software, reason through unfamiliar problems, and learn a domain without requiring every step to be prescribed for you. You should be comfortable:• Building reliable backend services and APIs in Go• Working with relational databases and writing competent SQL• Designing clear data models and service boundaries• Debugging problems across application, database, network, and integration boundaries• Writing tests that prove meaningful behavior• Using Git and participating constructively in code reviews• Reading existing code before deciding it needs to be replaced• Taking a feature from an incomplete idea through production delivery• Explaining your technical decisions clearly AI-ASSISTED DEVELOPMENTProficiency with modern AI development tools is an important part of this role.We are not looking for someone who simply generates code and assumes it is correct. We are looking for a developer who knows how to use AI as an engineering partner: exploring a problem, challenging assumptions, evaluating alternatives, accelerating implementation, and verifying the result. The developer remains responsible for understanding the system and the code that enters it. Strong candidates will be able to explain:• How AI tools have changed their development workflow• Where those tools are genuinely useful• Where generated code commonly fails• How they verify correctness, security, performance, and maintainability• How they preserve their own judgment while working at substantially greater speed WHAT YOU WILL DO• Design, implement, test, and maintain Go services and supporting applications• Build software used in public-safety and security operations• Integrate with cameras, access-control systems, dispatch workflows, sensors, and third-party APIs• Investigate defects and operational failures through evidence rather than guesswork• Improve application performance, reliability, observability, and security• Participate in design discussions without turning every feature into an architecture exercise• Work directly with operational subject-matter experts to convert real needs into useful software• Document the decisions and behaviors that future developers will need to understand• Use AI-assisted development tools thoughtfully to increase delivery speed without surrendering engineering discipline WHAT WILL MAKE YOU SUCCESSFULYou are probably a good fit if you:• Enjoy solving concrete problems more than debating fashionable abstractions• Care whether software behaves correctly after it reaches production• Can work independently while still asking good questions• Prefer simple, understandable systems over unnecessary complexity• Are willing to investigate the entire system rather than stopping at the first layer• Understand that performance, security, observability, and failure handling are part of the feature• Accept feedback without defensiveness and can challenge an idea without creating theater• Are curious, dependable, and serious about becoming a stronger engineer QUALIFICATIONS• Approximately two to six years of professional software-development experience• Demonstrated proficiency with Go• Experience building backend services, APIs, or distributed applications• Working knowledge of relational databases and SQL• Experience with Git, automated testing, and modern delivery practices• Practical experience using AI-assisted development tools• Strong written and verbal communication skills• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience Useful but not required:• Cloud-platform experience• Linux and container experience• CI/CD and production deployment experience• Event-driven or real-time systems• Hardware or IoT integrations• Cybersecurity or secure-development experience• Public-safety, CAD, dispatch, video, GIS, drone, or access-control systems COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS• $65–$75 per hour, based on experience and qualifications• Full-time employment• Medical insurance• Retirement benefits• Professional development and training opportunities• On-site work in Moorpark, California ABOUT COVERED 6Covered 6 combines experienced public-safety professionals with modern technology to support law-enforcement agencies, municipalities, government organizations, businesses, and communities. Its work spans protective services, real-time intelligence, technology integration, public-safety training, drone operations, product innovation, and software development. This gives developers something unusually valuable: direct access to the people who use the systems being built and immediate visibility into whether those systems solve the actual problem. If you want to build software with tangible operational consequences—and you are ready to use both your own judgment and modern AI tools to do it well—we would like to hear from you. Apply through this posting with your résumé and, if available, links to GitHub projects, technical writing, or software you have helped deliver. Covered 6 is an equal-opportunity employer.
