Senior Front End Software Engineer

This is an exciting opportunity to work on advanced software tools and user interfaces that support the research, development, and validation of cutting-edge sensor technologies. Working as part of a multidisciplinary engineering team, you will contribute throughout the full product development lifecycle—from early innovation and prototyping through to commercial deployment. You'll collaborate with software, systems, integration, and test engineers to build intuitive engineering applications that enable data analysis, visualization, and workflow automation. The ideal candidate will have proven experience developing desktop applications with event-driven user interface frameworks, such as C++ with Qt or Java with Swing or JavaFX. You should be comfortable creating clean, maintainable applications using MVC or component-based architecture. What you’ll be doing Working alongside systems, software, integration and test specialists, you will: Develop engineering applications and tools using MATLAB and Python, with exposure to modern C and C++.Create responsive user interfaces, dashboards and data visualisations that help engineering teams interpret results and make informed decisions.Design maintainable software using approaches such as Model-View-Controller, event-driven development and component-based architecture.Manage application state and connect frontend experiences with backend data-processing services.Build reliable data exchange and inter-language interfaces across different layers of the toolchain.Develop automated unit and system tests using modern testing frameworks such as Google Test.Support software architecture decisions involving processing performance, memory usage, power efficiency and computational complexity.Contribute to tools and models associated with system-on-chip architectures.Help demonstrate emerging sensor capabilities and collaborate with technical partners, customers and sensor suppliers.Produce clear technical documentation and contribute across a varied range of sensor systems engineering projects. Essential experience A bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science or a related discipline.At least three years of professional software engineering or closely related experience.Programming experience with MATLAB and Python.Familiarity with modern C and C++.Knowledge of object-oriented programming in at least one relevant language, such as C++, MATLAB, Python or Java.An understanding of software design patterns and structured application architecture.Experience of software testing at unit or system level. Particularly useful experience Building technical user interfaces, dashboards or data-visualisation tools.Using C++, MATLAB and Python for engineering tools, data processing or interface development.Developing compilers, interpreters or software toolchains.Working with CPU, GPU, NPU or wider system-on-chip architectures.Developing for real-time operating systems or modifying device drivers.Working with inertial sensors, including IMUs, or other embedded sensing technologies.Creating simulation or hardware-modelling tools.Communicating technical information clearly through documentation and presentations.
