Role description The Frontend Software Engineer designs, builds, and evolves scalable, high-quality web applications and user experiences that power Booking Holdings’ high-traffic platforms, ensuring performance, accessibility, reliability, and usability for millions of travelers worldwide. Success means owning the full software lifecycle from architecture and implementation through deployment, monitoring, and production support, while raising the engineering bar through mentorship, code reviews, and technical leadership across teams. The role exists to drive frontend engineering excellence and modern web architecture within the Bucharest Centre of Excellence, supporting Booking Holdings’ consumer brands by providing specialized engineering talent and best practices that accelerate delivery across the organization. This role provides a hybrid way of working with an onsite presence of 2 days/week. Key Job Responsibilities and Duties Translates product and design requirements into fully functioning front-end features across desktop and mobile web, following established design systems and engineering standards, in order to deliver high-quality user experiences to millions of customers.Builds, tests, and iterates on web experiences using modern front-end technologies, aligned with performance, accessibility, and maintainability best practices, in order to ensure reliable, bug-free product experiences.Owns front-end solutions end-to-end, from idea and implementation through release and post-launch monitoring, guided by team engineering practices, in order to ensure quality, performance, and long-term maintainability.Applies experimentation, A/B testing, and analytics to product development work, in line with data-driven product principles, in order to validate ideas and drive measurable improvements for end users.Collaborates with designers, back-end developers, product managers, copywriters, and user researchers on feature discovery and delivery, within an agile team setup, in order to shape and ship well-rounded product experiences.Contributes to engineering standards, code reviews, hiring, and onboarding within the broader engineering organisation, aligned with internal guidelines and ways of working, in order to raise code quality and support the growth of the team. Role Qualifications and Requirements Bachelor’s degree and 3-5 years of relevant experience Knowledge Strong knowledge of core front-end technologies, including JavaScript, HTML, and CSS.Working knowledge of modern front-end ecosystems such as React and TypeScript, with familiarity with Node.js considered a plus.Understanding of web performance, accessibility, responsive design, and cross-browser compatibility principles.Familiarity with experimentation, A/B testing, and analytics-informed product development.Knowledge of version control systems (e.g., Git) and modern collaborative development workflows.Understanding of testing practices for front-end code, including unit, integration, and end-to-end testing.Awareness of agile ways of working and product development lifecycles in a commercial, product-led environment. Skills Ability to translate product and design requirements into functional, high-quality front-end features.Skill in writing high-performance, reusable, and maintainable front-end code.Proficiency in troubleshooting browser compatibility issues and complex front-end implementation problems.Strong product sense, with the ability to advocate for the end-user experience during design and implementation.Ability to interpret experimentation and analytics data to inform front-end decisions and iterations.Effective written and verbal communication skills in English, with the ability to collaborate across disciplines.Skill in reviewing peers' code and providing constructive, actionable feedback.
