Senior Java Software Engineer

Our client is a leading global financial services firm delivering world-class investment banking, securities, investment management, and wealth management solutions. Their technology teams power mission-critical financial systems that support global markets. On their behalf, we are seeking experienced Senior Java Engineers to join their technology teams supporting wealth management, operations, and enterprise platforms across Asia. As a Senior Java Engineer, you will play a key role in designing, developing, and modernising large-scale backend platforms that support portfolio accounting, business operations, and mission-critical financial applications. Working closely with global engineering teams, business stakeholders, architects, and QA teams, you will build scalable, high-performance distributed systems that enable business growth, operational efficiency, and digital transformation initiatives. Key Responsibilities: Backend Application Development: Design, develop, and maintain enterprise Java applications using Core Java, Spring Boot, REST APIs, and microservices architecture to support business-critical platforms.Platform Modernisation: Build and modernise scalable backend services, event-driven applications, and distributed systems that support portfolio accounting, operations technology, and enterprise workflows.System Integration & APIs: Design, develop, and maintain REST and SOAP services, integrating applications across enterprise platforms while ensuring high availability and performance.Database & Data Engineering: Develop and optimise database solutions using DB2, PostgreSQL, Sybase, and NoSQL technologies, ensuring efficient data processing and application performance.CI/CD & Platform Deployment: Support application deployment, release management, and automation using Jenkins, GitHub, Linux, and modern DevOps practices.Performance Optimisation & Production Support: Troubleshoot production issues, optimise application performance, and enhance scalability, reliability, and operational efficiency across distributed systems.Cross-Regional Collaboration: Work closely with engineering teams, architects, business analysts, QA, and product stakeholders across Asia to deliver high-quality software solutions within Agile development environments. Qualifications & Technical Skills: 3–6+ years of experience in Java backend development within enterprise or financial services environments.Strong expertise in Core Java, Spring Boot, REST APIs, microservices, and object-oriented design principles.Solid experience working with SQL databases such as DB2, PostgreSQL, or Sybase, with knowledge of data modelling and database optimisation.Hands-on experience working in Linux environments, including shell scripting and application deployment.Experience with CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins, GitHub, or similar DevOps tools.Good understanding of distributed systems, multithreading, and backend application architecture.Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively within global technology teams. Preferred (Nice-to-Have) Skills: Experience with Kafka, NoSQL databases (e.g. MongoDB), Docker, Kubernetes, or cloud-native applications.Exposure to Angular, HTML5, JavaScript, or modern frontend technologies.Knowledge of portfolio accounting, financial systems, wealth management, or operations technology platforms.Experience with cloud platforms, GenAI, Power Platform, UiPath, or infrastructure automation.Background working within investment banking, wealth management, or financial services technology.
