Description

Referment are partnering with a highly regarded quantitative investment firm to hire a Cloud Engineer into their core Infrastructure team. This is an opportunity to join a technology-driven business where infrastructure is treated as a competitive advantage rather than a support function. The environment is technically demanding, fast-moving and gives engineers genuine ownership over the platforms they build. We're looking for an engineer who enjoys solving a wide variety of infrastructure problems. This isn't a role for someone who wants to specialise in one cloud service or spend their days managing tickets. Instead, you'll work across cloud, Linux, networking, automation and platform engineering, taking projects from idea through to production. What You'll Be Doing You'll help design, build and operate a hybrid infrastructure spanning AWS, Azure and on-premise environments. Responsibilities Include Designing and improving cloud infrastructure across AWS and AzureBuilding secure, resilient and scalable platforms for production workloadsWorking on cloud networking including routing, connectivity, DNS and hybrid infrastructureAutomating infrastructure using Infrastructure-as-Code and scriptingDriving improvements around monitoring, observability and incident responseOwning infrastructure lifecycle management including upgrades, patching and resilienceWorking closely with networking, security and development teams to deliver practical engineering solutionsEvaluating new technologies and helping shape the future technical direction of the platform What We're Looking For The successful candidate will likely have several years of experience in infrastructure or cloud engineering and, more importantly, a genuine enthusiasm for technology. You'll Probably Bring Strong Linux systems administration experienceGood knowledge of AWS and/or AzureExperience with infrastructure automation (Terraform, Ansible or similar)Solid networking fundamentalsExperience supporting production infrastructurePython or other scripting experienceA practical approach to troubleshooting and problem solving Experience within financial services is beneficial but by no means essential. The Type Of Person Who Succeeds Here Technical skills matter, but attitude matters just as much. The Team Values Engineers Who Have a genuine "can-do" mentalityAre naturally curious and enjoy learning new technologiesTake ownership rather than waiting to be askedAre comfortable wearing multiple hats across infrastructurePrefer solving problems collaboratively instead of protecting narrow areas of expertiseWant to understand how the business works rather than simply maintaining systems This role would particularly suit someone who's developed broad infrastructure experience in a high-performing engineering environment and is looking to take on more ownership in a business where good ideas are recognised quickly. If you enjoy building reliable infrastructure, learning new technologies and working alongside talented engineers in a collaborative environment, we'd love to hear from you. #Referment
