Genics, an Australian based global leader in next-generation early pathogen detection and food security technologies, is seeking an early-career Full Stack Developer to join our Digital Solutions team. We’re looking for a developer who wants their work to make a difference to the sustainability and well-being of communities all over the world. You will be contributing to a live commercial platform from the outset, working with a degree of independence that assumes established technical foundations. In this role you will work alongside our experienced Full Stack Developer, taking ownership of day-to-day operational and business-as-usual (BAU) tasks that keep our digital services running, while progressively learning and contributing to the development and maintenance of our digital, laboratory and customer platforms. Tasks and Responsibilities All listed tasks and responsibilities are deemed as essential functions to this position; however, business conditions may require reasonable accommodations for additional task and responsibilities. Take ownership of day-to-day business-as-usual (BAU) digital tasks and first-line support.Under mentorship, contribute to the development, testing, and maintenance of the digital and customer platforms.Write clean, scalable, testable, and well-documented code, following the team’s standards and guidance.Help maintain and improve the Genics website and supporting digital tools.Assist with routine data tasks, bug fixes, and feature enhancements.Support development workflows on our customer platform, built on PHP/Laravel and follow the team’s development practices.Support, over time and with training, the development and maintenance of other internal IT & Digital systems.Contribute to the documentation and knowledge base of your team (Confluence).Participate and contribute to team agile processes and culture (Jira / Kanban). Essential Experience & Skills Tertiary qualification in a relevant IT, Computer Science or Software Engineering.At least 12 months’ practical development experience. Internships, industry placements, freelance or contract work, and substantial personal or academic projects all count. You must be able to show us code you have written and talk us through the decisions behind it.Working proficiency in PHP and a modern MVC framework. Laravel is strongly preferred, as it is the core stack of our customer platform; if your experience is with an equivalent framework in another language, you will need to show you can transfer it quickly.Practical front-end capability in HTML, CSS and JavaScript, sufficient to build and modify functional interfaces without step-by-step guidance.Working knowledge of relational databases and SQL, including the ability to write queries involving joins and to find your way around an existing schema.Experience using Git in a collaborative workflow, branches, commits, and merge or pull requests.Demonstrated ability to read, debug and modify code you did not write, working methodically from symptom to root cause rather than by trial and error.Clear verbal and written communication: able to explain what you have done, flag when you are stuck early rather than late, and act constructively on code review.A proactive, curious approach to unfamiliar problems, and a real appetite to be mentored and to keep improving.English essential, other languages seen as beneficial.Must have current legal working rights in Australia. Desirable Experience & Skills Exposure to the TALL stack (Tailwind, Alpine.js, Livewire, Laravel).Python.Exposure to AWS or another cloud platforms.Experience using AI-assisted development tools as a normal part of your workflow.Exposure to automated testing.
