The company
A scale-up in Amsterdam building software for independent restaurants and food brands.
The platform makes them visible in Google, Maps and AI assistants, lets them sell directly to their guests without paying commission to third parties, and helps them bring those guests back.
Seed funded, with a Series A planned towards the end of this year.
This is their building year, and the engineering team is being strengthened with two senior people.
What you will build
The centre of gravity is the commerce product, and there is a lot of work there:
The storefront and how products are managedSynchronisation of products and orders with other systemsOrder management and the workflows behind itIntegrations with the tools merchants already useAn in-restaurant tablet app.
Nobody in the team has built native before, so that gets worked out together with AIA loyalty programmeA marketing platformNot everything can be predicted.
A large part of the roadmap comes straight from what merchants say they need.
How the team works
You work with an AI agent close to 100% of the time.
Writing code by hand is the exception, not the ruleWhat counts is the judgement to direct that agent well and to spot when what comes back is not good enoughFlat organisation, and it stays that way.
A tech lead, two squads, a product manager per squad, a data leadSmall enough that standups stay short and nobody waits for permissionYou get as much ownership as you need.
That is not the same as deciding alone.
See something that should change, make the case for it.
Once there is agreement, it is yours
What they are looking for
Around 8 years of experience, spread across two or three companies rather than eight.
Long enough somewhere to have lived with the consequences of your own decisionsReal decision-making experience.
Not just choosing between frameworks, but decisions about where a product goes, made after talking to product, operations and whoever else matteredProactive communication.
You can take a half-formed idea, work out where the edges are, and turn it into something shippableA feel for what makes code good.
Patterns, structure, architecture, and how to make sure something holds up once real users touch itIf you need a fully specified ticket before you start, this is not the place.
What they are not asking for
The stack is Python and Django with a React and TypeScript frontend on GCP.
You do not need to arrive with all of it.
Never touched GCP is fine too, they will show you where the logs areHow you think weighs much heavier than the stack you happen to have used.
Nice to have
Experience in e-commerce, marketplaces or order platformsAn interest in food or restaurants.
There are people in the team with professional kitchen backgrounds, and they build for users they understand
