Description

Head of Cloud EngineeringPower International AS – Lørenskog, Norway We're moving our compute out of the data centre. Want to own the platform? Our technology platform is changing fundamentally: from on-prem servers, databases and storage we own ourselves, to containers and cloud services in Google Cloud. We're looking for a Head of Cloud Engineering to own that platform, and to build the team and the competence around it. You'll be an engineer who leads – someone who works in Terraform and pipelines themselves, and who also wants to grow people and capacity as our cloud footprint expands. You'll report to the CTO and join the Digital leadership team. What you'll doGCP is our preferred cloud platform, and you'll be responsible for it. That means, among other things: Access management and separation of duties. You set the boundaries for who can do what – both inside IT and out towards the development teams on the business side. We want control, without the platform becoming a bottleneck.Cost control. Cloud spend that nobody owns only goes one way. You own it.Monitoring. We want to know how the platform is doing before our users tell us.In-house ownership. The expertise should sit with us, not with a consultant who has an end date.Build and run our DevOps toolchain yourself – and raise the level of the developers and operations people around you.Make sure our solutions and technology follow InfoSec best practice, and support the SecOps work together with our CyberSec team.Help define and deliver the group's cloud strategy.Everything to do with the cloud platform runs through you. That said, this isn't a role you can sit in alone: you'll work closely with our CyberSec coordinator, IT operations and the Analytics Platform team, as well as with the SAP application team and our web developers. The projects you'll walk intoThis isn't a role where you'll need to invent work for yourself. Already in the portfolio: FlowRetail POS to every store, spring 2027. A new point-of-sale system across the Nordics, with everything that requires in infrastructure, testing and rollout.Agentic AI in production across the company. We're rolling out AI agents that will work against our core data in BigQuery and Looker. That raises hard questions about access management, identity and data access that need to be solved properly, not improvised.Elastic 9 on GKE as the search platform for e-commerce.Google Kubernetes Engine Enterprise for hybrid Kubernetes operations across on-prem VMware and GCP for the e-commerce backend.S/4HANA: migrating the entire SAP estate to a new version and a private GCP cloud.Omnium SaaS OMS for order orchestration.SecOps with the CyberSec team: supporting security work with infrastructure, automation and sensible defaults. What we're looking forSolid experience with DevOps principles and practiceStrong technical grasp of modern cloud technology and Infrastructure as Code, with hands-on experience of Terraform, Ansible, Puppet or similarGoogle Cloud experience is a clear advantage, but if you bring comparable depth from AWS or Azure we'd like to hear from youExperience with software development and agile ways of workingA good understanding of identity, access management and data security – particularly when it's machines and agents asking for the accessStrong communication skills, and the ability to motivate and engage the people around youA genuine interest in building a team and raising its capability, not just delivering yourselfCommercial understanding of retailAbout the leadership sideThis is a leadership role, and you will be building a team. Our cloud programme is growing, more of our operations are moving from our own data centres to cloud services, and both our capacity and our competence need to grow with it. Shaping how is your responsibility: setting direction, building the architecture yourself in Terraform, and lifting the skills of the people around you. You're also the person who decides when we build competence in-house and when we bring in external help. Power's Digital department is small but hands-on, and everyone here is both expected to roll up their sleeves and able to. That's what lets us move quickly with little overhead, and it means real mandate and real responsibility rests with the individual. You'll have genuine authority to make technical and strategic calls without heavy approval cycles. The distance from decision to production is short here, precisely because the people who decide also build. What we offerCompetitive termsA seat in the Digital leadership team and real influence over the group's cloud strategyThe chance to build a technical discipline up from where we are todayA small, capable environment where the distance from idea to production is shortGood staff discounts on what we sellPractical detailsLocation: Lørenskog, Norway. Work from home as needed. Some travel within the Nordics is expected, and in certain periods it can be a fair amount depending on the project. Type: Permanent, full-time Application deadline: 31 August 2026 – we review candidates on a rolling basis Questions about the role?
