The Role The position is primarily based at our Smethwick manufacturing facility, with occasional support provided to our Oldbury site. We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Maintenance Engineer with a strong background in heavy manufacturing, ideally within the steel industry. The successful candidate will have completed a recognised engineering apprenticeship and hold a formal qualification in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Maintenance. You will be capable of integrating quickly into an established maintenance team while also being confident working independently with minimal supervision. You will be dependable, reliable, and committed to delivering work to the highest standard. You will possess excellent mechanical fault-finding and diagnostic skills, with the ability to identify root causes and implement effective repairs efficiently. A proactive approach to preventative maintenance, a strong commitment to health and safety, and a keen eye for detail are essential. This is a varied, hands-on role requiring a practical engineer who can respond effectively to breakdowns, carry out planned preventative maintenance, contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, and support machinery installations and engineering projects. Key Responsibilities · Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) on production machinery and plant equipment. · Respond to mechanical breakdowns and complete repairs safely & efficiently. · Diagnose faults and implement effective corrective actions. · Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives to enhance equipment reliability and performance. · Assist with installation, commissioning, relocation, and modification of new and existing machinery. · Undertake project work as required. · Carry out repairs and maintenance to site facilities and infrastructure. · Ensure all work is completed safely, in accordance with company procedures and H&S legislation. · Accurately complete maintenance records and documentation. · Work collaboratively with production and engineering teams to maximise equipment performance. Role Information & Benefits · Working Hours: Rotating weekly, Morning Shift: Monday-Thursday 05:45-13:45, Friday 05:45-12:55.
