Summary
A leading technology company is building the next generation of its logistics platform — the systems that move physical packages across a regional carrier network from first pickup to final doorstep. This spans middle-mile linehaul between hubs, sortation and cross-dock operations, and last-mile delivery. The team is extending fast-growing B2C delivery capabilities into a full package-logistics network. This role offers a rare opportunity to build foundational platform services close to the ground floor, designing and owning core systems that track package custody as it changes hands across the network. These services will handle millions of physical events daily and run on world-class infrastructure. The ideal candidate has 5+ years of backend engineering experience, proficiency in Java, C++, C#, or similar OOP languages, and experience designing and operating distributed systems at scale. Responsibilities include designing event-driven systems, writing maintainable code in Go, building reliable alerting and monitoring, and providing technical mentorship to junior engineers. Preferred qualifications include experience with event-driven architectures, micro-service design, logistics/supply chain domains, and greenfield environments. The role requires at least 50% in-office presence with hybrid work arrangements. Competitive base salary, bonus, equity, and comprehensive benefits including a 401(k) plan are offered.

Description
About The Role And Team
Uber is building the next generation of its logistics platform: the systems that move physical packages across a regional carrier network, from the first pickup to the final doorstep.
This spans middle-mile linehaul between hubs, sortation and cross-dock operations inside those hubs, and the last-mile delivery that puts a package in a customer's hands.
Uber Direct is among the fastest-growing products in the B2C (Business-to-Consumer) delivery spaces.
It lets merchants create deliveries through our Dashboard or by integrating directly with our public API, adding delivery to their own website or app.
We are now extending these capabilities into a full package-logistics network.
This is a rare opportunity to build a foundational platform close to the ground floor.
You'll design and own the core systems that track the custody of every package as it changes hands across the network - services meant to run Uber's logistics operations for the next decade, built on Uber's world-class infrastructure and handling millions of physical events a day.
What You'll Do
Design and build the core services that track and orchestrate the movement of packages across the network - from pickup, through hub sortation and line haul, to final deliveryBuild highly scalable, high-quality product features used every day by merchants, drivers, warehouse operators, and end customersModel the domain from first principles and design event-driven systems and data models that will underpin logistics for years to comeWrite elegant, maintainable, scalable, and well-documented code on Uber's platform primitives (Go, distributed datastores, workflow orchestration, streaming/event buses, RPC)Drive data-driven architecture and systems design decisionsBuild reliable alerting and monitoring for the systems you own, and take real ownership of their operations, reliability, and on-call healthCollaborate cross-functionally (Product, Design, Data, Operations) and across teams to solve hard problems and ship end-to-endProvide technical leadership and mentorship to more junior engineers on the team

Preferred Qualifications
BS or MS in Computer Science or a related technical fieldExperience with event-driven and/or streaming architectures and micro-service designExperience in logistics, supply chain, fulfillment, marketplaces, or other high-throughput, real-world operational systemsComfort working in greenfield environments and migrating or integrating existing systems onto a new platformExperience with cross-team initiatives and driving alignment across stakeholdersSelf-driven to identify opportunities to make things better, faster, and more efficientAbility to translate a high-level, ambiguous business problem into a concrete technical solution
