As part of continued growth within their technology function, they are looking for an experienced Back End Developer, Ruby on Rails Software Engineer to join their Digital Development Team and help build, maintain and evolve their online products. Role: Reporting into the Engineering Lead, you will become a key member of a collaborative Online Development Team, responsible for delivering robust, scalable and reliable backend solutions that support the organisation’s digital platforms. Working closely with front-end developers, QA engineers, delivery teams and wider business stakeholders, you will play an important role in designing, developing and improving the systems that power customer-facing digital experiences. You will contribute to technical decisions, improve development practices and help ensure solutions are secure, maintainable and aligned with business needs. Key Responsibilities Design, develop and maintain backend services and applicationsBuild scalable solutions that support high-quality digital and eCommerce experiencesWork collaboratively with developers, QA, product and wider technology teamsContribute to technical decisions around architecture, development practices and improvementsProduce clean, maintainable and well-structured codeParticipate in code reviews and provide constructive feedbackIdentify opportunities to improve performance, reliability and development processesStay up to date with emerging technologies and best practices You will have: Strong understanding of software development principles, methodologies and design patternsExperience with backend application developmentSolid understanding of database design and data modellingCommercial experience with Ruby on RailsExperience working within Agile development teams (Scrum/Kanban)Experience using Git and modern version control practicesExperience reviewing code and providing constructive feedbackStrong problem-solving skills with a structured and methodical approachExcellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with technical and non-technical teams Desirable Experience - It would be advantageous if you have experience with: Developing high-volume or customer-facing digital platformseCommerce or online retail environmentsAPI development and integrationCloud-based technologies and modern deployment approachesAutomated testing practicesImproving application performance and scalabilityContributing to technical standards and engineering best practices
