One of the world's leading organisations in defence electronics and naval communications systems is looking for a Senior C++ Software Engineer to join a specialist team in Kiel. This is a role that combines hands-on C++ development with architecture responsibilities and technical leadership — an opportunity to own complex engineering challenges in a high-stakes domain. THE ROLE • Develop high-performance, scalable software solutions in modern C++ (C++23) • Write meaningful unit and integration tests (e.g. Catch2) and optimise CI/CD pipelines • Provide technical leadership and mentoring for junior and mid-level developers • Act as the central technical authority for complex engineering challenges • Drive pair programming sessions and raise quality standards across the team • Contribute to architecture design for complex distributed systems ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS • Substantial professional experience in C++ with modern C++ (C++23) — mandatory • Demonstrated Qt framework experience • Good understanding of software design patterns and distributed system architectures • Proven experience in technical leadership and developer mentoring • Business-fluent German (C1+) — mandatory • Eligibility for NfD security clearance THE DETAILS • Location: Kiel, Germany (up to 60% home office) • Salary: Up to €120,000 p.a.
