About The Role Reddit is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Software Engineer to join our Moderation organization. This role is pivotal in shaping the technical and product strategies that enable moderators to create and nurture meaningful communities on Reddit. As a key contributor, you will work on building features that empower moderators, enhance user experience, and drive critical product metrics across the platform. This position offers the flexibility of remote work within the United States, with optional in-office visits at our physical locations in San Francisco, Los Angeles, New York City, and Chicago. The successful candidate will be involved in the full development lifecycle, from technical design and development to testing, experimentation, and deployment, contributing to projects that impact millions of users worldwide. Qualifications The ideal candidate will have 2-5 years of software development experience in an enterprise environment, demonstrating a strong technical foundation and a passion for building scalable solutions. A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience is required. Proficiency in at least one general-purpose programming language, such as Go or Python, is essential, with additional experience in Rust or Ruby considered advantageous. Familiarity with API design and implementation, including GraphQL, REST, HTTP, Thrift, or gRPC, is necessary to develop maintainable and efficient interfaces. Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively are vital for success in this fast-paced environment. The candidate should possess an entrepreneurial mindset—self-directed, innovative, and comfortable navigating ambiguity and learning from setbacks. Excellent communication skills are essential for collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams and conveying complex technical concepts to diverse audiences. Responsibilities Collaborate with product managers, designers, and engineering teams to translate business and product strategies into innovative features that enhance user engagement and community moderation.Participate in the entire software development lifecycle, including technical design, coding, testing, experimentation, and deployment. Review code and design documents, provide constructive feedback, and ensure high-quality deliverables.Contribute to designing scalable, efficient APIs and backend systems that support Reddit’s moderation tools and community management features.Continuously seek opportunities to improve technical skills and expand knowledge of industry best practices, emerging technologies, and platform capabilities.Engage in troubleshooting, performance optimization, and maintenance of existing systems to ensure reliability and scalability.Foster a collaborative environment by sharing knowledge, mentoring junior team members, and participating in code reviews and team discussions.
