Description

Career Opportunity Here's the corporate dribble HR made us put at the top: Acro Commerce is looking for a Front End Developer to build and maintain high-quality e-commerce experiences for our clients. That's done. Now here's what we really want. Someone who codes in React like it's their native tongue, but still talks to our crew comfortably and sometimes even the odd client. You can turn a Figma file into a fast, componentized, pixel-perfect build, and you notice when something's a few pixels off before anyone has to tell you. You're driven to do good work but don't take yourself too seriously while doing it. You also know your own code. You can walk us through a build that didn't go the way you planned, what you'd do differently, and you don't need your hand held to get there. That kind of honesty and low ego is how you got good in the first place. You must be able to provide example work. What You'll Do Build & Ship Build and maintain front ends primarily in React, Next.js, and TypeScript, turning Figma designs into clean, componentized, well-tested codeImplement updates and revisions to existing websites and web applicationsWork independently across multiple smaller tasks or larger builds with shifting priorities to meet deadlines Quality & Estimation Produce high-quality work adhering to Acro Media standards and the Acro Media production processProvide accurate estimates for the time required to fix a defect, complete a build, or add functionality to an existing applicationFind and fix problems in code; this might not be your code, and your only hint might be a cryptic complaint from a client Collaboration Communicate well with Account Managers, Supervisors, and Clients about work requests, problems, and defectsAct as both a peer/mentor to other developers and be comfortable asking for help from teammates What You'll Bring We're less concerned with degrees and more with what you can actually build. Formal education or prior experience is not required; we just want to know you can code, so you'll need to show us some work.Strong, hands-on React experience, comfortable building component-driven UIs and working from a design system or component library (Storybook experience a plus)An eye for design. You don't need to be a designer, but you should be able to look at a build next to a Figma file and know when something's off: spacing, type, hierarchy, polish, and ideally propose the fixSolid grasp of responsive, accessible front-end development; you build things that hold up across devices and know your WCAG basics without being askedWe like frameworks, but show us what you can do without one; comfortable hand-coding clean HTML, CSS, and JS when the situation calls for itComfortable working in a Linux shell for day-to-day tasks; some understanding of Linux hosting is a plusSource control experience (Git, GitHub, etc.)We're open to good programmers who know other languages and technologies and are willing to learn. Here's a bunch of stuff we normally work with: React, Next.js, and TypeScript are the core of this role, and the rest are a strong plus: JavaScript, Tailwind, SASS/SCSS, Figma, Drupal, Shopify, WordPress, Docker, Lando. Nice-to-haves beyond that include testing tools (Cypress, React Testing Library), other frontend frameworks (Bootstrap, MUI), package managers (npm, Yarn), CI tooling (Gulp, Grunt), and analytics/performance tools (Lighthouse, Google Analytics). If you're a badass Lisp hacker type, mention that too, and if you're creative outside of code (drawing, painting, music, whatever), we'd love to hear about that too.An excellent internet connection and adequate hardware are required; you must be able to sustain an hour-long conference call without any issuesFluency in English All offers of employment with Acro Commerce are contingent on successfully completing a criminal background check. Working remotely Given the often isolated nature of working remotely, we value remote team members who get involved, communicate effectively over email, chat, and video, and aren't afraid to show their face on a webcam. We want you to be part of the team, not just a fly on the wall. What We Bring Ownership and impact. Developers own this joint here. We're not going to stick you in a corner with headphones on and call you "the IT department." The expected salary range for this role for candidates residing in Canada is $50,000โ€“$134,000 CAD, tailored to your skills, performance, qualifications, experience, and location.Autonomy over your schedule. Flex start times, earned days off, and real remote work. Prefer to start at 8:00? 9:00? We'll work with you. Want every second Friday off? We've got a program for that. Work from your home office or from our Kelowna HQ, your call. (Some client contracts require staff to be located in Canada, so most positions need you to be legally able to work here.)Professional development. We might live and breathe software development, but we are also really passionate about our team's personal development, too. We love to learn and are always striving to be the best version of ourselves; whether it's training on the latest technology or learning how to become a better delegator, we will help you improve your skills and hit your goals.Culture. We're a certain type of people. We're all a little different and unique in our own way, but we seem to work well together. No one's perfect, and we embrace that. We take our work seriously, but we don't take ourselves too seriously. Check out our site to get to know us! Feel free to dissect what and how we do what we do. All careers come with a 30-day no-questions-asked money-back guarantee.
