Role Description This is a remote internship role for a Software Developer working on DeafDive’s AI-driven sign language translation extension.
Day-to-day tasks include contributing to the design, development, and maintenance of back-end services and APIs that power real-time translation features.
The intern will write clean, testable code, assist in integrating machine learning or AI components with application logic, and help optimize performance and reliability.
Responsibilities also involve collaborating with other team members via online tools, participating in code reviews, and documenting technical decisions and implementations.
This is an unpaid learning-focused role designed to provide hands-on experience in building inclusive communication technology.
Qualifications
Strong foundational knowledge in Computer Science, including data structures, algorithms, and software design principles.Practical experience or coursework in Software Development and Programming, with the ability to write clear, maintainable code.Skills in Back-End Web Development, including working with APIs, databases, and server-side frameworks.Understanding of Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) concepts and their application in real-world projects.Familiarity with one or more relevant programming languages (e.g., Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, Java, or similar).Ability to work independently in a remote environment, manage time effectively, and collaborate using online communication and project tools.Interest in accessibility, inclusive design, and tools that support Deaf and hard-of-hearing communities.Currently pursuing or recently completed studies in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
