Role Description The Senior Project Planning Engineer is a full-time, on-site role based in Brisbane, QLD. This role leads schedule development and control across engineering and construction projects. The role is responsible for building baseline schedules from scratch, setting the planning approach for each project, and maintaining forecast schedules through delivery. Day-to-day tasks include reviewing progress against baselines, analysing variances, and recommending corrective actions to project leadership. The role tracks schedule delay risk. This includes identifying risks that could delay key milestones, linking them to the affected schedule activities, and monitoring float erosion and critical path exposure. Where no project risk register exists, the role maintains a schedule risk log. The Senior Project Planning Engineer agrees control actions with the project team, tracks them to close-out, and reports their effect on the forecast. The aim is to flag delay risks early so the team can act before they hit the critical path. The role works closely with project managers, cost controllers, risk managers and technical teams to align timelines, resources, budgets and risk exposure. It leads the preparation of schedule reports and dashboards for internal stakeholders and clients, reviews schedule quality, and guides and develops junior planners. The role also contributes to improving PIOTICON’s planning standards and performance management practices. Qualifications Minimum 8 years of planning and scheduling experience on engineering or construction projects, including at least 4 years building and owning baseline and forecast schedules in Primavera P6 or Microsoft Project or OPC.Experience tracking schedule delay risks, including linking risks to schedule activities, monitoring float and critical path, and managing control actions to close-out.Strong project control and cost control knowledge to monitor performance, manage budget variances and support risk mitigation.Experience reviewing schedule quality against recognised standards and coaching others to fix issues.Strong analytical skills to interpret project data, identify trends and support decision-making.A degree in engineering, construction management, project management or a related field.Proficiency in MS Excel or similar analytical software.Confidence presenting schedule status, delay risks and recovery options to senior stakeholders and clients.Experience mentoring or supervising junior planners.Experience on ANZ infrastructure projects (roads, rail, water, mining or oil and gas) is highly beneficial.
