Backend Engineer - Remote

About the Company Mango Voice provides cloud-based communication solutions that help businesses connect with their customers through VoIP, SMS, and collaboration tools. The company is expanding its partner ecosystem and continuing to develop its communications platform. About the Role Mango Voice is looking for an experienced Principal Backend Engineer to design, develop, and maintain cloud-native applications that support its Business VoIP software. You’ll work within a small engineering team of 3–5 engineers, contributing to platform architecture, backend development, infrastructure maintenance, and production support. The role also offers the potential to focus on AI-driven features and agentic systems, particularly in Customer Experience. You’ll help shape the architecture of a unified Conversational AI and Communications Platform while working closely with Product, UX/Design, and other engineers. Alongside hands-on development, you’ll provide technical guidance to junior engineers and participate in on-call rotations. Key Responsibilities •Design, build, and maintain scalable, secure, and reliable APIs and routing logic, primarily using Golang. •Write, test, and deploy production-ready software to improve the Mango Voice platform, including potential work on CRM, PMS, and EHR integrations and AI-driven workflows. •Define the architectural direction for the unified Conversational AI and Communications Platform, with a focus on performance in high-volume environments. •Collaborate with Product Management and engineering to refine user stories and deliver projects using the Shape Up framework. •Manage the full software development lifecycle for assigned features, from technical design and implementation through deployment and ongoing maintenance. •Monitor and troubleshoot platform reliability, API performance, and response latency, including participation in on-call rotations and support escalations. •Maintain and improve AWS cloud infrastructure using automation tools. •Work with engineering, UX/Design, and Product teams to align technical implementation with the product vision and intended user experience. •Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance to support effective development practices and team collaboration. Required Qualifications •10+ years of software engineering experience, with a focus on backend development. •Extensive experience with Golang (Go) in high-volume, production-ready systems. •Strong hands-on experience designing and building solutions on AWS, including services such as EC2, S3, RDS, Lambda, and CloudWatch. •Strong understanding of microservices architecture, REST/gRPC API design, and scalability challenges. •Experience designing efficient database schemas across relational SQL and NoSQL datastores. •Proficiency in collaborative code management using Git and GitHub. •Strong communication and teamwork skills, particularly in a remote working environment. •A collaborative approach to engineering, with an emphasis on building systems that empower other team members as well as individual contributors. Preferred Qualifications / Requirements •Experience developing software with Python. •Experience designing and building autonomous or semi-autonomous software agents and AI-driven workflows. •Familiarity with Large Language Models (LLMs), prompt engineering, and agentic development frameworks such as LangChain or LlamaIndex. •Experience with VoIP technologies, including SIP, RTP, and WebRTC, or messaging technologies such as SMS, MMS, and RCS. •Experience automating CI/CD, server management, and migrations using tools such as Terraform, Ansible, and Bash. •Previous experience building healthcare software, with a strong understanding of HIPAA compliance and security requirements.
