Description

About the Company Effodio is building a next-generation analytics platform that provides real-time insights into application and infrastructure performance. Founded by industry veterans from Google, Arista, and other leading technology companies, Effodio focuses on helping teams understand and analyze performance through high-volume data. About the Role Effodio is looking for a Senior Backend Engineer with strong database optimization experience to help improve the performance and scalability of its analytics platform. The platform processes large volumes of time-series data, making efficient database design, query performance, and data retrieval central to this role. This is a hands-on backend engineering position, not a database administrator role. You’ll primarily develop backend services in Go, contribute to a GraphQL API layer, and work across the platform’s architecture and implementation. Your expertise in PostgreSQL, TimescaleDB, Redis, and Elasticsearch will be especially valuable as you address performance bottlenecks and improve the way data is ingested, stored, queried, and retrieved. Once the core database optimization work is in a maintainable state, you’ll also contribute to other backend engineering projects. Key Responsibilities •Design, develop, and ship backend services and features in Go, including work with a GraphQL API layer. •Write clean, efficient, maintainable production code throughout the software development lifecycle. •Contribute to system design, architecture, and implementation of scalable services across coordinated systems. •Analyze and optimize PostgreSQL and TimescaleDB queries using EXPLAIN ANALYZE to identify performance issues in time-series and relational workloads. •Develop indexing strategies, including B-tree, GIN, BRIN, partial, and hypertable indexes, based on query patterns. •Improve Redis caching layers and Elasticsearch indexing and query performance. •Identify and resolve bottlenecks across data ingestion, storage, querying, and retrieval. •Evaluate SQL and NoSQL data stores for new features based on access patterns and scalability requirements. •Design database schemas across PostgreSQL, TimescaleDB, and Elasticsearch, balancing performance, maintainability, and data integrity. •Implement partitioning, hypertable, and data retention strategies for high-volume time-series workloads. •Build and operate services deployed on Kubernetes across AWS and GCP, with attention to reliability, fault tolerance, and high availability. •Use observability tools such as OpenTelemetry and Prometheus, along with distributed tracing and metrics, to investigate latency and throughput issues. •Troubleshoot complex production problems across services, data pipelines, and data stores. •Collaborate with product, data, and engineering teams to deliver solutions and contribute to practical technical decisions. Required Qualifications •7+ years of backend software engineering experience. •A strong track record of building and operating production systems at scale. •Hands-on experience optimizing PostgreSQL in production environments, including query performance, indexing strategies, and execution plans. •Experience with at least one NoSQL data store, such as Redis, Elasticsearch, or a similar technology, in a production environment. •Experience working with large datasets and high-throughput data ingestion pipelines. •Experience with AWS and/or GCP cloud platforms. Preferred Qualifications / Requirements •Experience with TimescaleDB or similar time-series database extensions. •Strong proficiency in Go is highly desired, although Effodio is willing to invest in training the right engineer. •Familiarity with Kubernetes and containerized systems. •Experience with GraphQL APIs, OpenTelemetry, Kafka, or time-series databases. Salary & Benefits Individual compensation is based on skills, qualifications, and experience. The compensation package includes salary, equity, and a discretionary bonus.
