Description

About Chainsage Chainsage is a fully remote quantitative trading firm with fewer than 20 team members, operating across major cryptocurrency trading venues. The firm develops proprietary, latency-critical systems for systematic market making and basis arbitrage, building its trading infrastructure from first principles. Chainsage is well funded and operates with a lean, autonomous team structure. Its engineering approach focuses on bringing execution, systems design, and quantitative research together while maintaining performance, determinism, and correctness. About the Role Chainsage is hiring a Senior C++ Engineer to take technical ownership of the execution architecture and performance of its trading systems. This is a senior, hands-on engineering role focused on the core execution layer, where microsecond-level performance and execution decisions can directly affect trading results. You’ll shape execution logic, establish performance targets, and ensure the system remains fast, reliable, and correct under real market conditions. Working closely with traders, quantitative researchers, and other engineers, you’ll use feedback from live trading to refine execution behavior and improve the underlying architecture. You’ll also review and guide engineering work to maintain consistent standards for latency, robustness, and system design. Key Responsibilities •Own and evolve the architecture and behavior of the core trading execution layer. •Design and implement execution logic covering quoting behavior, order lifecycle policies, inventory-aware execution, and risk-aware decision-making. •Define performance targets and strategies for the execution stack, including latency budgets, critical-path design, contention boundaries, and correctness guarantees. •Profile and optimize systems under real market workloads, focusing on tail latency, jitter, cache locality, memory allocation, and stability under stress. •Build and improve high-throughput, low-latency systems using modern C++ and Linux. •Apply multithreading, atomic operations, lock-free techniques, and low-contention designs where appropriate. •Develop and optimize network communication using TCP/UDP, sockets, epoll, or comparable APIs. •Evaluate scheduling behavior, CPU affinity, runtime performance, and Linux networking configurations to improve execution efficiency. •Work closely with traders and quantitative researchers to refine execution behavior using feedback from live trading. •Guide and review other engineers’ work to ensure alignment with architectural, performance, and reliability goals. •Help evolve trading infrastructure and execution practices as quantitative trading develops alongside AI-assisted engineering and research. Required Qualifications •At least 5 years of senior-level or staff-level software engineering experience, with deep exposure to modern C++ (C++17 or C++20) in low-latency or real-time systems. •Experience designing execution or decision-making layers for high-frequency trading (HFT), market making, or similarly latency-sensitive applications. •Demonstrated experience building and profiling high-throughput, low-latency systems on Linux. •Practical knowledge of multithreading, atomic operations, lock-free programming, or low-contention system design. •Experience with network programming, including TCP/UDP, sockets, and epoll or similar APIs. •Understanding of Linux performance tuning, including CPU scheduling, CPU affinity, kernel and networking parameters, and network interface card (NIC) configuration. •Ability to reason about scheduling, CPU affinity, runtime behavior, and system performance under demanding workloads. •Strong architectural judgment and the ability to balance performance, reliability, and correctness. •A self-directed, pragmatic working style and comfort operating with minimal process. •Location within the GMT-5 to GMT+3 time zone range. Preferred Qualifications •Experience in cryptocurrency trading or digital asset markets. •Familiarity with exchange mechanics, order book dynamics, and market-making strategies. •Background in trading infrastructure, networking, real-time systems, or other performance-critical backends. •Experience working closely with quantitative researchers and traders to improve live execution systems. What Chainsage Offers •Technical ownership of the trading system’s most profit-and-loss-sensitive layer. •A close feedback loop between execution decisions and live trading results. •Base compensation plus meaningful profit sharing and pre-funding equity. •Periodic in-person research and development sprints. •Visa sponsorship in multiple jurisdictions, including the United States (H-1B) and the United Kingdom and European Union. Work Arrangement This is a fully remote position for candidates located between GMT-5 and GMT+3. The role offers substantial technical autonomy and direct collaboration with the trading and research teams, with periodic in-person R&D sprints.
