Data Engineer

Educational Requirements - Bachelor's degree completed in: Computer Science, Computer Software Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering or a closely related field - Minimum GPA: 3.0/4.0. - Previous internship experience is a plus, particularly in: Data Engineering, Software Engineering, Database Engineering, Data Science Technical Requirements: The candidate should have foundational knowledge of: 1. SQL - SELECT, JOIN, GROUP BY and filtering - Aggregation and basic query development - Relational databases - Data validation and troubleshooting 2. Python - Basic Python programming - Data-processing scripts - Automation - Writing scripts to identify and fix data problems 3. Data Engineering - Data extraction - Data cleaning - Data transformation - ETL/ELT fundamentals - CSV and structured data - Database loading and validation 4. APIs - Basic understanding of REST APIs - JSON - API requests and responses - Extracting and processing API data 5. Overpass Turbo / OpenStreetMap - Familiarity with Overpass Turbo is preferred. - Ability to query OpenStreetMap data is a strong advantage. - Experience extracting business and geographic data is a plus. AI Tools The candidate must be comfortable using modern AI-assisted development tools, including: - ChatGPT Pro - Claude Pro These tools may be used for: - SQL development and troubleshooting - Python scripting - Debugging - Data cleaning and transformation - Understanding APIs - Technical research - Documentation - Developing data-processing solutions Candidates must be able to review, understand and verify AI-generated code before using it. Preferred Qualifications Preference will be given to candidates with: - Previous technical internship experience - GPA of 3.5+/4.0 - Personal data-engineering projects - Git/GitHub experience - PostgreSQL, MySQL or SQL Server experience - Pandas/NumPy - Linux experience - Cloud-platform exposure - REST API experience - OpenStreetMap/Overpass Turbo experience - Experience working with large datasets - Experience cleaning, deduplicating or validating business data Professional Requirements The successful candidate must demonstrate: - Strong analytical and problem-solving skills - Strong written and verbal communication - Reliability and accountability - Ability to follow technical instructions - Willingness to work with large and complex datasets - Ability to document technical work clearly
