Description

WE ARE HIRING: Senior DevOps Engineer Danaos | [Location — Hybrid/On-site] | Full-time About Us Danaos has built the software that powers the global maritime industry. Our platform supports the critical operations of shipping companies around the world, from finance and commercial management to crew, technical, safety, and environmental operations. Today, we’re building what’s next. Maritime presents engineering challenges unlike almost any other industry. Ships operate across the globe with intermittent connectivity, mission-critical operations, and increasingly autonomous workflows. Building software for that environment means solving problems most engineers never encounter, while helping define what the next generation of enterprise software looks like. We are transforming a market-leading enterprise platform with modern engineering practices and a stronger internal platform foundation. Our goal is to make it easier for engineering teams to build, test, deploy, and operate software consistently across cloud, customer-hosted, and onboard vessel environments. Role Overview We are hiring a Senior DevOps Engineer to join our Internal Platform Engineering team and help simplify, standardize, and improve the environments our development teams use every day. This is a hands-on engineering role focused on developer enablement, environment consistency, deployment automation, and operational reliability. You will work closely with application engineers to reduce friction across development, test, and production workflows, and to create standardized platform patterns that support the way our software is built and deployed. This role is an important step in how Danaos evolves its platform engineering capabilities. You’ll help shape the shared foundations, tooling, and working practices that make software delivery more consistent, more reliable, and easier for engineering teams to operate at scale. Your work won’t live solely in cloud infrastructure. The environments and deployment patterns you help shape will need to support cloud-hosted production systems, customer-managed on-premises installations, and onboard vessel deployments, which means designing for consistency, repeatability, and operational resilience across very different runtime conditions. What You’ll Do Work closely with development teams to simplify and standardize development, test, and production environments.Build and maintain reusable infrastructure, automation, and deployment patterns that reduce manual work and improve environment consistency.Improve CI/CD workflows so applications can be built, tested, and released more reliably across multiple deployment targets.Help define and maintain platform standards for configuration, environment structure, secrets handling, and release processes.Support the evolution of internal platform tooling that makes it easier for engineers to provision environments, deploy services, and troubleshoot issues.Contribute to infrastructure as code practices for cloud and hybrid environments, with a focus on repeatability, traceability, and maintainability.Partner with application teams to identify friction in local development, testing, and release workflows, and turn that feedback into practical platform improvements.Help establish deployment and operational patterns that work across cloud, customer-hosted, and vessel-based environments.Improve observability across build, deployment, and runtime environments, including logging, monitoring, alerting, and troubleshooting workflows.Help design for operational realities such as intermittent connectivity, environment drift, versioning challenges, and safe rollout and rollback patterns.Collaborate with security and engineering stakeholders to ensure platform automation and deployment workflows follow appropriate guardrails.Contribute documentation, runbooks, templates, and shared practices that make the platform easier for teams to use effectively. What Success Looks Like Development and test environments become easier to create, maintain, and use consistently across teams.Engineers spend less time dealing with environment drift, deployment issues, and manual setup steps.CI/CD and environment management become more standardized, making releases more predictable and easier to support.Shared tooling and platform patterns reduce duplicated effort across teams and create a clearer path from development to production.Production deployments across cloud, customer-hosted, and onboard vessel environments become more repeatable, observable, and operationally reliable. The platform team becomes a useful partner to development teams by solving practical workflow and deployment problems, not just managing infrastructure. What We’re Looking For 5+ years of experience in DevOps, platform engineering, site reliability engineering, or infrastructure-focused software engineering roles.Experience working with cloud platforms and cloud-native infrastructure, with Azure preferred.Experience supporting or building CI/CD pipelines, deployment automation, and environment standardization practices.Experience with infrastructure as code tools such as Terraform, Bicep, Ansible, or similar technologies.Experience with containers and orchestration platforms such as Docker and Kubernetes.Strong scripting and automation skills using tools such as Bash, PowerShell, or Python.Experience working with development teams to improve engineering workflows, reduce operational friction, and support reliable software delivery.Solid understanding of configuration management, secrets handling, environment separation, and release safety.Experience with monitoring, logging, and alerting systems used to support infrastructure and application operations.Familiarity with hybrid deployment models, including cloud and on-premises environments.Strong communication skills and a practical, collaborative approach to solving engineering problems.Nice to Have Familiarity with Azure DevOps or similar delivery platforms.Experience supporting internal developer platforms, shared engineering tooling, or self-service infrastructure patterns.Experience with customer-hosted software, offline-capable systems, or operational environments with intermittent connectivity.Familiarity with networking, VPNs, certificates, identity and access management, or secure connectivity patterns across distributed environments.Experience working in regulated or security-conscious environments.Exposure to release engineering, packaging, installer workflows, or software distribution for non-cloud deployments. Danaos Maritime Software is an equal opportunity employer. All aspects of employment support and respect individuals and personnel processes are applied without any discrimination. All applications will be treated in strict confidence.
