About The Role We are seeking a skilled PHP Engineer to join our expanding UK Loans team, preferably based in or around London. As part of our vibrant engineering organization comprising over 200 engineers across backend, frontend, mobile, and platform disciplines, you will play a vital role in enhancing our lending platforms. Your responsibilities will include developing and integrating APIs to improve the customer journey, optimizing system performance, and participating in architectural discussions to shape the future of our technology stack. This role offers a unique opportunity to work on complex financial systems, leveraging modern PHP development practices, and contributing to innovative solutions that impact millions of customers. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, take ownership of your projects, and have the chance to influence the technical direction of our products in a fast-paced environment. Qualifications Minimum of 5+ years of professional experience with PHP, demonstrating strong, business-oriented engineering skills.Proficiency with modern PHP development, specifically PHP 8.0+.Solid understanding of Symfony framework and its ecosystem.Experience with Domain Driven Design, Message-Driven Systems, and Event Sourcing is advantageous.Excellent automatic testing skills, including expertise in unit, integration, functional testing, and Behat.Ability to work independently with a high degree of ownership and autonomy.Desirable: prior experience working on financial systems or in a fintech environment.Strong desire to learn, collaborate effectively within a team, and contribute to innovative solutions. Responsibilities Design, develop, and maintain robust APIs and backend services to support our lending products.Optimize and enhance existing systems for performance, scalability, and security.Participate in architectural discussions, making technical decisions aligned with best practices and company goals.Implement automated testing and continuous integration processes to ensure high-quality code.Collaborate with cross-functional teams including product managers, data scientists, and frontend engineers.Contribute to technical documentation and knowledge sharing within the team.Engage in code reviews, mentoring, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
