Role Description The Mid-Level PHP Developer is a full-time, hybrid role based in Athens, with the flexibility to work from home part of the time. You will join our backend team to design, build, and maintain the APIs and services that power a trading platform. Key Responsibilities Design, develop, and maintain RESTful APIs and backend services in PHPWrite clean, maintainable vanilla PHP using OOP principles and PSR standardsContribute to framework-based projects (e.g., Laravel, Symfony) where applicableDesign and optimise MySQL schemas, queries, indexes, and transactionsIntegrate third-party services such as payment providers, KYC/AML tools, exchanges, and external APIsApply security best practices, including input validation, authentication/authorisation, and protection against SQL injection, XSS, and CSRFWrite and maintain automated tests (e.g., PHPUnit) and take part in code reviewsTroubleshoot, debug, and resolve production issues, and identify performance bottlenecksMaintain technical documentation for APIs and internal systemsCollaborate with product, frontend, and QA teams to deliver features end to endRequirements 3+ years of professional experience in backend PHP developmentStrong command of native PHP (PHP 7.x and 8.x), OOP, and common design patternsProven experience building and consuming REST APIs (JSON, HTTP, authentication methods such as JWT or OAuth)Solid MySQL skills: schema design, complex queries, indexing, and query optimisationFamiliarity with at least one PHP framework (Laravel, Symfony, Slim, or similar)Experience with Git and ComposerGood understanding of web application securityFluent in English, written and verbalAble to work independently and take ownership of tasksNice to Have Experience with Docker and Linux server environmentsFamiliarity with Redis, message queues (e.g., RabbitMQ), or background job processingExperience with CI/CD pipelinesBasic understanding of crypto, blockchain, and digital asset tradingPrior experience in fintech, banking, EMI, or payments environmentsExposure to WebSockets or real-time data systemsWhat We Offer Competitive Salary: €35000–€45000 gross, based on experience and qualificationsGenerous Leave Policy: Extra annual leave to support a healthy work–life balanceFlexible Work Setup: Hybrid role with flexible hoursThrilling Industry Exposure: Be part of the fast-growing cryptocurrency sectorTop-Quality Equipment: Access to modern tools and technology
