Description

Help us bring our product development in-house – and build the engineering team you would want to be part of. Playback is a Copenhagen-based music fin-tech startup helping independent artists and labels take control of their royalty management. We collect, ingest and integrate royalty data from across the music industry, turning complex data and payment flows into something artists and labels can actually understand and manage. Now we're entering a new chapter. We are bringing more of our software development in-house and are looking for a Senior Software Developer who wants to do more than just join an existing engineering organisation. You will help us build one. Why this role is differentThere are plenty of senior developer roles where the architecture, processes, tooling and ways of working have already been decided. This isn't one of them. You'll join Playback at a point where you can have real influence on how we build software, how our engineering team operates and how our technology evolves as we scale. You'll work closely with our founders, product and operations team and future developers to turn real customer and business problems into scalable technology. That means plenty of hands-on development – but also the opportunity to shape the technical foundation around it. What you'll be working onBuilding and improving the core Playback platformDeveloping scalable backend services, APIs and integrationsWorking with complex royalty and financial dataAutomating workflows that are currently manualImproving data ingestion, processing and reconciliationBuilding tools that make complicated royalty information simple for our customersImproving reliability, testing, monitoring and performanceContributing to architecture and technical decisionsHelping define our development practices, tooling and engineering standardsWorking closely with Product and Operations to solve actual customer problems What we're looking forWe're less interested in whether you've worked with one exact technology and more interested in whether you know how to build good software. We imagine you have several years of professional software development experience and are comfortable taking ownership from problem definition to production. You enjoy building scalable and maintainable systems; working across backend, APIs, databases and integrations; making pragmatic architectural decisions; turning messy real-world problems into elegant technical solutions; challenging assumptions; working autonomously; and sharing knowledge with less experienced developers. Experience with data-heavy platforms, fintech, payments, accounting, SaaS or music-tech is a plus – but definitely not a requirement. What you'll getReal ownership. You won't be developer number 87 implementing tickets someone else defined. You'll have a genuine say in what we build and how we build it. A blank-ish canvas. We're bringing development in-house, which means you'll help shape our architecture, tooling, engineering practices and culture. Direct access to decisions. You'll work closely with the founders and the people actually using and operating the product. Visible impact. The things you build will directly affect our customers and our ability to scale. The chance to build a team. You'll be one of the first members of our new in-house engineering setup. An industry worth learning. Music royalties are surprisingly complex – full of data, systems, edge cases and problems without obvious answers. Tech StackA blank-ish canvas, did you catch that? We have customers. We have running systems, and we have a tech stack. Data & Infrastructure: PostgreSQL, Firebase, Supabase, Elest.io, Docker, Docker Compose, Playwright for automated testing. Backend & Pipelines: Python, FastAPI, Panda, Celery, Typescript, Kong API, PostgREST Client Apps: React, Typescript, Vite, AG Grid About PlaybackPlayback exists to make royalty management simpler, more transparent and less time-consuming for artists and labels. We're building technology that removes spreadsheets, manual processes and unnecessary complexity from an industry that has lived with them for far too long. We're based in Copenhagen and are currently growing both our product and our presence beyond Denmark. If the idea of joining early, taking ownership and helping build both the product and the engineering team behind it sounds exciting, we'd love to hear from you.
