1.0 Description of Assignment: Working under the supervision of the Manager, Application Portfolios, the UI/UX Developer will be responsible for implementing the approved ttc.ca website redesign and building new customer-facing digital experiences for TTC’s Digital Customer Experience team. TTC has engaged a vendor to complete the Discovery and Definition phases of the ttc.ca website redesign, deliver evaluation findings, design recommendations, and annotated wireframes and mockups. The contractor will own the implementation: translating the approved designs into production-ready, accessible front-end code within TTC’s existing technical environment, including the Sitecore content management system. Backend system and infrastructure changes are out of scope. In parallel, the resource will design and build a responsive web application displaying next-arrival predictions and service alerts across form factors, including large-format and kiosk displays such as suspended screens at bus bays. Each display browses to a URL carrying a stop code, and the page renders that stop’s real-time arrivals and alerts. This is a TTC-led initiative outside the vendor’s scope. This assignment will require the incumbent to work onsite 2-3 days per week at Union Station East Wing 61 Front St West and other GTA locations as required under TTC’s hybrid work policy. 2.0 Skills and Certifications: Mandatory Requirements: • University degree or college diploma in Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Computer Science, or a related discipline, or equivalent combination of education and experience. • Minimum 3 to 5 years of experience as a UI/UX Developer or Front-End Developer implementing customer-facing websites from approved designs. • Demonstrated portfolio of shipped responsive web interfaces spanning both UX design and front-end implementation. • Strong proficiency in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript/TypeScript, and hands-on experience with a modern front-end framework such as React. • Experience implementing front-end designs within an enterprise content management system (Sitecore preferred). • Experience building interfaces compliant with AODA and WCAG 2.0 Level AA, including ARIA, keyboard navigation, and screen-reader compatibility. • Experience designing multiple form factors and screen sizes, including large-format or kiosk displays and mobile devices. • Experience with Figma, including component libraries, design tokens, and design systems. • Experience integrating front-end interfaces with real-time data feeds and APIs (e.g., service alerts, schedules), including loading, stale-data, and error states. • Experience meeting front-end performance budgets and testing across browsers and devices. • Experience working in Agile delivery teams with product managers, developers, and QA. • Strong communication skills, with the ability to present and rationalize design and implementation decisions to technical and non-technical stakeholders. Other Skills and Certifications: • Experience with digital signage or passenger information display systems. • Hands-on Sitecore CMS development experience (templates, components, personalization). • Familiarity with WCAG 2.1/2.2 success criteria beyond the 2.0 AA baseline. • Experience planning and conducting usability testing and user research. • Experience with motion design and micro-interactions for glanceable, at-a-distance interfaces. • Experience contributing to and maintaining shared design systems and component libraries. • Experience with Git, front-end build tools, and CI/CD pipelines. • Familiarity with customer journey mapping, service design, and user-centered design principles. • Public sector, municipal government, or transit industry experience is considered an asset. • UX certification (e.g., NN/g) or related design and front-end certifications are assets. 3.0 Assignment Duties: • Implement the approved ttc.ca website redesign, translating vendor wireframes, mockups, and design recommendations into production-ready, accessible front-end code within the Sitecore CMS. • Review vendor Discovery and Definition deliverables for technical feasibility and participate in handoff and implementation planning activities. • Build and extend reusable UI components within TTC’s design system, ensuring consistent branding, navigation, terminology, and visual design across the website. • Integrate front-end interfaces with TTC scheduling and service disruption feeds, real-time trip planning, service alerts, and customer feedback features, working within the existing backend systems. • Ensure all implemented pages and components meet AODA and WCAG 2.0 Level AA accessibility requirements. • Meet front-end performance budgets, including page load targets, without degrading accessibility features. • Design and build the URL-addressable next-arrivals and service alerts web application (one URL per stop code) for large-format suspended displays at bus bays, kiosks, and mobile devices, implementing the specification including bay-grouped pagination, alert displacement behavior, and no-data states, fed by real-time GTFS-RT data. • Support testing activities, including usability, accessibility, performance, and cross- browser/device testing, and resolve defects in design or implementation. • Support deployment activities, staff training, and production readiness. • Develop and maintain design and technical documentation in accordance with TTC standards. • Provide knowledge transfer and support continuous improvement activities across the Digital Customer Experience team. 4.0 Deliverables: The consultant will implement the approved ttc.ca website redesign and build new customer- facing digital experiences, including: • Implemented ttc.ca website redesign pages, templates, and components in production, compliant with TTC brand standards and WCAG 2.0 AA • Front-end integration with real-time scheduling feeds, service alerts, and trip planning features • Next-arrivals and service alerts web application: URL-addressable by stop code, real-time GTFS-RT data, responsive across form factors (large-format and kiosk displays, desktop, mobile) • Reusable UI components and design system contributions • Accessibility conformance documentation and test evidence (accessibility, performance, cross-browser/device) • Defect fixes and deployment support • Training materials and handoff documentation • Design and technical documentation in accordance with TTC standards
