Description

The Staff Mechanical Engineer is a highly experienced engineer who designs, develops, tests, and oversees the production of radar and related mechanical systems, equipment and integrations. They analyze and interpret technical specifications, create mechanical drawings and designs, and ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations. Their responsibilities often involve conducting calculations, analyses, tests, troubleshooting issues, and providing solutions for improving the efficiency, performance, and reliability of mechanical systems. Additionally, they will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, contribute to project planning, and stay updated on emerging technologies to implement innovative solutions in their field. Essential Functions Experience in CAD (preferably SolidWorks) design, simulation (preferably SolidWorks Simulation or Abaqus), manufacturing, and testing.RF or Electronic Packaging design experience is highly desired.Has extensive breadth and depth of knowledge in a mechanical engineering field of specialization and working knowledge of other fields.Research, evaluate, develop, and test radar systems and subsystems involving all aspects of mechanical design including tolerance stack up, CTE mismatch, thermal & structural analysis.Familiarity with manufacturing techniques such as machining, welding, dip & vacuum brazing, composites and additive manufacturing.Has critical project technical leadership responsibility; may plan or lead work assignments for lower-level engineers and technicians.May provide a leadership role for the work group through knowledge around specialization. Coordinate engineering efforts and provide engineering assistance to internal teams or external customers.Works on advanced, complex technical radar projects or business issues.Design, build, and document test setups, test cables, and test procedures for verification of mechanical aspects of radar systems, subsystems and installations. Performs extensive testing and validation of radar designs to ensure reliability, performance, and safety standards are achieved.Troubleshoot and investigate customer trouble reports on fielded radar systems; determine root causes and generate design improvements to eliminate failure points.Create and update documentation for new and existing designs in all phases of the product lifecycle.Keep abreast of new developments in the fields of engineering design, methods, and applications. Furthers knowledge of profession through continued education.May be called upon to perform comparable duties of a similar or related nature and/or assist in other areas as needed.Learning, understanding, continuously improving, and promoting the division’s quality management system in accordance with ISO standards.Comfortable working in a hands-on lab environment.Provides mentorship by sharing experiences with less experienced engineers.Works autonomously.Must meet eligibility requirements for access to government classified information.Travel may be necessary.US Persons required for this position. Education And Experience Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering and 8+ years of career experience.OR master’s degree in mechanical engineering specializing in a related field and 6+ years of career experience.OR PhD in mechanical engineering specializing in a related field and 4+ years of career experience.
